I have noticed a cool theme with the mechs. If there are no important critical weapons on an arm and it is just a shoulder actuator and/or upper arm actuator, they act as shields. With the now fragile gauss weapons, shields would be awsome to have in this configuration. Not to mention really cool looking gauss cannons. Here I have collected a series of Images and manipulated them to the best of my ability to what we could have as a variant "no weapon-arm" catapult.

Good stuff, I for one hope for more 3D modular designs based on what weapons are placed on any Mech. It would add a lot of visual variety and as on the K2 would look a lot more sensible for the ballistic hardpoints. Some Mechs already have a 'teaser' of sorts for different weapon placements changing their appearance, so I can only assume they are working on it, its just not high priority..

The original Atlas concept art: http://mwomercs.com/...-atlas-sketches

Here was another concept someone made on these forums for modular design:

Nice art, imo, but trying to make a real gaussapult in any shape or form is simply impossible.

Gauss rifle is really big, like half the whole torso big, and there is no way you could stuff 2 of them on this mech.

LIKE this idea. Helps with visual ID's and I think this should appy to all mechs. Like a Gauss Hunchback.

Uhhh, except that you can stuff two of them on the mech. You know, because it has the space and weight needed for the 30 tons of guns.

Seriously, if they're going to allow people to fit a 15 ton weapon into a space previously occupied by a 1/2 ton weapon, I want to see a change to the in game model so I can visually identify what they're packing without having to wait for a sensor scan.

You can stuff it into a Raven as well, but not in any quasi real-life situation.

Basically, this is gauss (those three mega cannons on Omega, that huge gun on top of the Stone Rhino):

The Fafnir uses Heavy Gauss Rifles.

Yeah, you can totally do it in any real-life situation, if we pretend these giant robots will ever be real. See, the mech has 35 tons limit...so if you take everything out, you have the tonnage to fit a gauss, and you have enough space to put it in a raven's torso.

Are we gonna look at ART to tell us how guns work? Because I could post an infinite number of pics of infinite black holes in the center of every AC5 and LBX barrel, fielded on every space chinese mech in existence.

We totally can't have these guns on smaller mechs, guys. The BT art shows them as GIGANTIC BLACK HOLES for these pretty small-caliber autocannons.

Also, if they get around to modeling what a Gauss really looks like on a Light like a Raven, its going to look hilariously (awesome)

And yet, the atlas K has a tiny, tiny gauss mounted on the hip. Basically, don't use the terrible BT art for anything, ever.

Or is this a challenge to post more of it?

No? But, why fight it? They are already slowly adding modular 3D designs on some Mechs and will continue to do so. More visual variety = Good.

The model for the gauss rifle was actualy on the arm of a Highlander. The way I figure it, if a 90 ton can fit it in it's arm, a 65 ton would HAVE to fit it in a torso. Remember not to include the barrel for actual weapon internal workings.

Yeah, the art has it's incostitencies, but we're discussing art here, is it not? For all practical reasons, gauss could be smalle enough to fit inside that machinegun...

Here's one to give you a rough idea of scale.

See atlas K, or clan mechs. Small, 'compact' guns, because you don't need what would likely be 30 meters of barrel.

If you've noticed, the Atlas HIP gun on every Atlas currently doesn't change. It is the BASE AC/20 3D Visual that you are looking at. If you switch out some AC/s on a Centurion Arm, you will see a visual change. Same thing with K2 Arms, Hunchback lasers, etc.

Its not a 'challenge' Vassago. Basically I am telling you 3D modular design is already in an early stage within the game, go look! Its there, so why not offer some input/ideas and get that stick out of your a*s*s.

They have armored+retractable sleeves on the barrels for melee attacks.

Thunder Hawk can fit Triple Gauss fine, 1 arm, 2 L/RT (L.Arm has 2 M.Las).

The artist who drew the Thunderhawk mech should be flogged as well as the editors who thought it looked good enough to put in into a book. That picture is horrid.

Is this suggestion dead? I think think it is a very good idea.
