This is a serious question and I would really like it to be answered:

Why is your communication not always open like this? Why only in cases of emergency?

Probably because it's extremely time consuming to sit on the forums all day.

Specific changes should have specific test plans associated with them. Any bugfix dealing with LRM damage should have a step where they fire LRMs to make sure the results of the fix are as expected - you know, to test the fix. One volley of LRM would be enough to tell you something was off in the damage from the debug data. QA sucks the big one and is a lot of repetitive stuff, but this one is a big miss.

Now if this bug caused something unexpected in the test chain (Lrms caused a module to no longer function, or caused the firing mech to lose armor for example) then I agree. No test plan can cover that. However, this is not the case.

I'd like to see something like STO has with a production system and a public "redshirt" test server. Those that want to test the goodies early can, and those that want to play can. Win-win. Although I guess live IS redshirt in this MMO.

Yeah but if they go the STO route, then all the bugs and errors that are discovered on the public test server wouldn't get fixed until after they hit live anyway, if at all, no matter the shitstorm that was raised about something. Because Cryptic.. bargain bin developer, low bar and all that. Two and a half years of their nonsense was enough to make me turn away from my favorite IP.

Though the practice is good in theory. I doubt PGI would execute it any differently or better than Cryptic ever did.

They should hire someone whose job it is to pass these things along.

A Community Manager if you will.

If it pays decent and I can do it from home instead of working in Canada and I can fly there once every week for a day or two, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I suppose my point was that mistakes can and do happen, regardless of how prepared you are. And has been noted even in the testing grounds that we can use vs the live server, variables in a test environment can and do vary from a live deployment. Either way, it sounds like Paul has a write-up for this anyways, and I admit I could be completely off base with my statements. I'm just attempting to offer perspective from a software development standpoint.

Hindsight is always 20/20, especially for those of us not actually doing the work ourselves.

Lol I'd want to do it just to see the heads explode from the people in the ECM feedback thread who are so very, very not fond of me.

In my mind they have this whole test lab where methodical weapon damage testing is performed before live games are played that include every common loadout of every chassis and every cheese build. Numbers are graphed and spikes and divots are analyzed.

But its really just a lan party at noon... isn't it?

This one disqualifies me for the Tech Director:
"Bilingual, French and English, written and spoken"

All I know in French is "Is your daughter legal consent age?", "MOAR WINE!", and "I have to poop, may I use your washroom?"

Sigh. So close.

We sure as hell will never make any 'Command Chair' posts, monthly updates, road maps, or anything like that.

I find a total media blackout works wonders; and as you can clearly see, we have followed that trend.

(24 intro) boop... beep... boop... beep... The following occurs between 10AM and 4PM on the day of a hotfix.

11:56 - QA still testing and more info still being gathered. I also went to talk to the headhitbox guy (yes, that's his title) and worked with him to adjust the JagerMech head hitbox. It will be reduced in size but I'm not sure at this moment which patch will include the fix. We'll try to expedite it but I can't give you a solid date at the moment.

I also rounded a corner to fast and took a desk corner to the upper thigh.

I recommend bringing a sledgehammer and threatening the hostile desk in a growl like voice if it doesn't behave.
Failing that, shooting it with LBX\10 to center wood will make you feel better. (If not at least you get kindling)

Solution to the problem OMG, why hasn't anyone thought of this yet. Lets give the Jagermech some ECM loving huh? Problem solved? No? Why not?!!!
