I for one see it as a very useful bonus that PGI and IGP can filter topic material more readily as a result of the recent forum changes. If it means that staff can concentrate their efforts better into tasks that is their specific function then it makes a lot of sense. There's more than enough mods already working to help collate an holistic picture also at the same time, not that as part of teamwork of personal interests those needs aren't satisfied anyhow so I don't see the demarcation of topic material preventative to this either.
To me this just seems that there is potential for the development staff to spend less time sifting through loads of posts, which I'm happy to say are mostly constructive, but were as part of old GD structure intermixed and therefore hard to find or navigate for topic discussion pertinent to areas or fields of interest.
This problem would likely only worsen in the future with the growth of the player base.
As a suggestion to some people who are concerned about where to post as opposed to adapting to the new situation then the maybe the idea of providing a helpful forum sitemap might be useful, though for myself personally its seems mostly intuitive and likely if you do accidentally file something in the wrong area I'd expect the mods to move it to where it belongs until things become more familiar.
Personally I welcome the change as a result if it helps staff focus better on their development activities as it means they are being more efficient with my monetary contributions. And it isn't really that big a deal to get used to a new forum structure.
You might like it... but I don't want to navigate 10+ subforums to find relevant topics I might like to read, why? Because I have better things to do with my time then try and figure out what my post about a mech build should go, nor am I a player that focuses on only one weight class so sub-forums based on weight-class only get me another 4 forums I have to sift through.
It's might make it easier for mod's to classify topics into 'simple' terms, but it doesn't mean it helps PGI collect criticism of the game because at present they do that by hiding feedback thread in their 'heat-sink topic' sub-forum, which isn't invitingly named either... Why so many sub-forums also? Mechs and Load-out Sub-forums in general are covered by the Guides Battlemech sub-forum (before it was split into 4 weight class BS), the reason people talked about the min general forums was due to meta game issues/developments around the chassis which leads to a greater discussion on the pros/cons over a statistical analysis of the build that another sub-forum allows.
I just don't see the overall reason for these changes other then to attempt to hide trends in thread creation from the general user and confuse those that approach the forum. In others words... they don't care about the core forum user experience, why if I was a fresh player this place would confuse the hell out of me, hell it still does now. So I bring the question back... why wasn't the community told that a forum overhaul was coming, or shown the finalized layout for comment?
