I'm voting for Darth, because the idea of all missile types could be really useful for a new player trying to figure stuff out. Also, non-splatcat A1 that looks fun and viable.

In principle I would agree, but why on earth isn't either the armor and/or the internal structure upgraded to make room for CASE?

I like some of the Dragon builds since they seem to make the Dragon a more interesting option than the standard variants.

But clearly the CTF-4X is the best all around build, I like it soo much, that I'm actually thinking about getting a CTF myself now!

Since SRMs are worthless after last hotfix, I would go for a XL Dragon with Gauss and 2xLL.

Voted for the 1C:

4x mlas, 1x gauss, 1x srm6 with a 300xl is really the only viable thing besides 4x llas you can do with a dragon.

The gauss ammo should go into the arm with the gauss cannon as a crit-buffer.

I really, really, really like the 4x ML 1x Gauss 1x SRM6 Dragon - especially with an XL 300. Quick to sniping positions, quick out of them, and a demon at close range (that alpha is 35 damage, not including the gauss!)

Not anymore Garth! After the hotfix, it's 29 ;-)

Errrr.... is it just me or does it seem that the links lead to the wrong mechs occassionally? The 4th Catapult Mech Link leads me to a Cataphract.

I feel as though i should have posted, seeing as though I don't really like most of the builds shown.

Here are mine:

Dragon
DRG-1N
13 Double Heat Sinks
Endo-Steel
XL Engine 280
334 Armor 18/55/25/32/17/32/17/36/30/36/30
BAP (L-Torso)
AC10 + AC10 Ammo x2 (legs)
LRM5 x2 + LRM Ammo x2 (legs)
Med Laser (L-Arm)
Large Laser (L-Torso)
AMS + AMS Ammo + CASE (R-Torso)

Multi-Role Assault, mainly midfield. Plenty of speed.

Cataphract
CTF-3D
12 Double Heat Sinks
Endo-Steel
Jump Jets x4
STD Engine 225
288 Armor 18/44/18/30/16/30/16/35/21/30/30
UAC5 (R-Arm) + UAC5 Ammo (R-Torso)
LB-10X (R-Torso) + LB10X Ammo (R-Torso)
Large Laser x2 (Arms)
Medium Laser x2 (L/R Torso)
AMS + AMS Ammo (L-Torso)

Energy-Ammo Combo with good range and offense, but slow.

I had another build in mind for this one, where you use an XL 300 instead, plus a CASE in one torso to hold all ammo. I never got to it b/c of costs.

Catapult
CPLT-K2
19 Double Heat Sinks
Endo Steel
STD Engine 275
368 Armor 17/50/25/42/17/42/17/37/37/42/42
PPC or ER PPC x2 (Arms)
Medium Laser x2 (L/R Torsos)
Machine Gun x2 (L/R Torsos) + 1 MG Ammo (R-Leg)
AMS + AMS Ammo (L-Leg)

A (mostly) energy build w/ just enough close-range power to handle anything, w/ great handling.

What do you think of these?

Whos idea was to mess up the mech names and poll mech names? Now I have to click every link to see who posted what.

I know mech code allows you to zero it in, but I'd rather have the comfort of searching it by a name.

The link to the K2 build seems to be broken. It just links to the top of the page, instead of its second entry, and it has the wrong username. The poll option does have it correct though. I've still voted for it, because it's nearly identical to a build I was considering to submit, though I went with my C1 idea instead.

Take note that as presented it's impossible to build. The CT can't take two DHS with the 280XL engine, one of those two should go in the left arm. Like this: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...4be7c177cbd8c13

I facepalm at all configs that have at least 14 slots left, and no use of Endo and/or FF.

The cfg itself is automatically upgraded by DHS (w/o having added any extra HS). Of course, there's virtually no justification for SHS.

Just ran the CTF-4X build, and have to say, this is probably one of the best rounded builds i have used. Survivability is pretty good, and firepower balance is not bad either. Wish it was faster, that's for sure, but its not horribly slow. Hug your Assault mechs though, because if you get caught out in the open you aren't getting behind cover quickly and can be picked apart That being said, has enough firepower to make mediums run and the 2 ML with the SRM-4 can keep lights at bay. This will be a great Heavy Trial mech IMO...well done Selfish!!

DRG-5N Seems the best from this terribad pack.

CTF-4X - 2nd place, except for single SRM-4 must go, and be replaced by a better engine.

Yeah, I clicked on the K2 link and was excited for a second because it loaded to a Marauder-clone. And I love the Marauder.

I ended up going with the Dragon that has 2 large lasers and a gauss. Two firing ticks should be easy to figure out, and it might encourage more folks to do fire support rather than brawl.

Yes... a better engine... 255 STD engine installed, 255 engine max.

Hm... how could you make this better, add XL and make it die faster?

Why is everyone gaga over an alright design on the single worst variant of the Cataphract?

Exactly how I feel. This build is great..., for a 4x. I could pilot this build to victory, but I have experience and work with my team. However I believe a lot of the voters are forgetting that this is a trial mech for "newbs." In other words they're not going to follow an Atlas around and support their team. Instead their going to run off and attempt a solo cave rush. Basically they're going to die repeatedly, get frustrated and probably leave. On the bright side, if they stick through this, they would have learned an invaluable lesson.

I voted the 4x.

I use a 4x myself, not in that layout, my one is slower. But still I have tried that kind of setup b4 and its rather good.

The SRM wont hit as hard as it used to but its still viable.

Seams like a lot of builds went with what they like and not what someone new would be good at using.

Exactly. Just wait till all these XL engine guys complain about being blown up fast, especially newer people who will be using these. These builds weren't for people currently playing the game. They are for new people like you said. It's ok though, 25 games and they got their own anyways right.

Still i think CTF-4X single Srm-4 can be replaced by something different.
Like ammo or heat sinks.

If we remember its for newbs - i'd say heat sinks.

3 different weapon groups is too many for newbies.

I would like to add.. some of the builds include streaks.

In the current incarnation of ECM (which has yet to change), streaks are simply not that viable in the current environment At least if you wanted to use streaks, combine them with PPCs (must have 2 minimum for chain fire). Otherwise, it's simply wasted tonnage.

What would a newbie say if they were using them... "why can't make streaks lock on to that Raven?" It's simply not newbie friendly... and no pro will touch that with a 10-foot pole unless they got ECM help.

Having streaks on builds really isn't bad. On my Dragon Flame and Cataphract 2X and Trebuchet 7K I have them to supplement my lasers for when those light strfe me and no ECM is around.

I voted for Thragen's design too even though it's got an XL and these are for new users. Boom torso gone, dead. But at elast with a dragon, they can go fast enough to avoid some of the fire.
