I am not sure i understand this thread, you can allready strafe with a mech. set throttle on, go run, turn torso 90 degrees in the direction you want.

what you cannot do, is fps type game strafe which is switch back left to right and turn on a dime. These arent humans they are machines, more like a tank in that it takes energy and motors to "turn" the legs.

you an still strafe back and forth if you want to, but the time it takes is incredibly slow compared to an fps game because these are mechs, not people.

i'm not sure I get this topic... is not torso twisting and running past your opponent while shooting strafing?

It basically is.

I think this is what they are refering to with strafing. Alternating back and forth rapidly to try and throw off the other persons aim. I remember playing the early Armored Core games where the mech would over compensate the lead. So shooting at somone who has the timing right would cause your shots to miss them completely every single time.

They would have to pretty much overhaul the controls for that. The A and D key would have to cause you to automatically strafe and not cause your mech to turn. The rate of deceleration and acceleration would also have to be unrealistically jacked up. Hell, it is unrealistically jacked up in those FPS games that allow for it to happen.

I think that they should just go whole hog, remove the heat mechanic and the throttle mechanic. Make ballistic guns have a reload time, and just stop pretending and maked the "turn left" and "turn right" keys into strafing. If theyre gonna go casual anyway they might aswell go big.

How do humans sidestrafe without 4 legs?

Humans don't need actuators they have hip joints... Did I really just have to explain that?

Nah, if that's what you want go play Hawken.

The simulator-lite or -esque or whatever you can call this game without offending fans of proper simulators is fine for casual play as long as the niche can be expanded enough to be viable.

You can already strafe in MWO. Turn your torso 90 degrees and move.

Straight up, NO. This is MechWarrior! There has NEVER been strafing in this universe. Ever. Furthermore (and not so much on topic) there has never been a 3rd person view in any mech game, save that microsoft p.o.s. MechAssault. Which frankly, offended myself and any other older players of Mechwarrior 2+.

CoD players, well you can either deal with that or you can go back to your fps. Tired of you kiddies trying to change things up, and tired of devs allowing it. Already nerfed my catapult, already nerfed my lrms ssrms and srms to cater to these whining children of the 90's and, possibly (with some of the things I've been reading in forums and in matches,) 2000's. This is not supposed to be a FPS, there are roles to play. You are supposed to have light scouts, supposed to have someone raining fire from the sky's, keeping the frontline mechs on the offensive and enemy in defense, or in cover. When I take in my C4, why am I called n00b? I'm performing a role that doesn't involve me fighting a frontline fight. If I wanted to do that, well I'd take in one of my hunchbacks or a stalker. Feel like scouting today, I take in my raven. This is as much a RPG as it is a Sim, but what it is not is a FPS.

Look, some of us have been waiting a loooonnng time for a MechWarrior game to come out, that didn't suck. Devs PLEASE stop pandering, and let's play some old school mechwarrior.

CoD players, look i get it. I love Battlefield 3 and Black Ops...well maybe not so much blackops. guess i like it alright. Halo is fun too, but it is what it is. deal with it. Stop trying to turn this into something it isn't supposed to be. Do it for the oldschool fans of a series most of us thought extinct.

Devs, Do something bold. Make a game for the true fans of a universe. Hell, Games Workshop and CodeX, they made a awesome space marine movie. It wasn't for people that didn't have a clue but, for the fans. Is this going to be that, or are you just pandering for fatter wallets? If it is fan driven, I'll spend money, as will most other fans. If you keep catering to ignorant kids, with a f2p but p2w philosophy (which lets just be honest here) you do. THEN KEEP TO THE LORE AND KEEP TO THE GAME. This is Table Top made Video Game. Let's keep it that way. Otherwise, you're nothing better than Nexon.

3pv and Strafing do NOT belong here.
