I've been noticing a lot of builds, and I noticed a huge issue. There is little to no survivability in light mechs against a medium. Their main defence being speed, I've noticed more heavier mechs going with larger engines in order to make light mechs "easy prey"

This means weapons that should require an extreme amount of skill to hit a light mech now require little skill in order to get a single shot kill shot.

I suggest, in order to bring some balance to the game, limit engine size in both standard as well as XL to a 300 engine rating. Period.

With the drawback of SRM damage, many light mechs have been "neutered" and need a buff, this would be that buff, but also let those mechs be useful in combat once more.

light mechs already dominate and do things they should not be able to the the fastest catapult is only half the speed on a spider.

Here's the issue. The catapault is a HEAVY MECH. If I can kill you before you shoot me in a light mech, then you deserve to die. This is where team play comes into fact. If your light mechs die to their light mechs, then you need to get someone who can shoot good to get rid of them. I've already suggested limiting the games to 2 of each class. This would solve the 4 pack of Raven **** fest you are probably referring to. (Or Spider)

Except when they up their engine sizes to make lights "easy prey" they are also turning themselves into "easy prey" for other heavy and assault mechs.

Give and take, sounds like you were just on the recieveing end a few too many times in a row.

I agree, it does sound like I'm on the receiving end too many times, however you have to look at it from a balance perspective. The main thing to keep lights alive is their speed. Assaults is their armor. As you get to the middle weight, you lose speed, gain armor and armnaments. I agree that the XL engine in these mechs gives them a slight disadvantage, however you also have to look at the speed. Now these medium mechs which are intended to backup light mechs till the heavy / assault get there are killing light, medium, and being a total destroyer of heavy and assault because they can't turn fast enough to take on the AC/20 strafing runs.

The limit of the 300 being the biggest is actually not mine to be honest. If you look at the battle tech rule book, it states that for balance purposes, only use a 300 engine. It only gives stats to 300. The only way to get a higher engine rating is when you build tanks, or other superheavy vehicles and 'mechs. Yes, I understand this is MWO and not my tabletop, however I do see a positive outcome from this.

I look forward to your retorts :P

well right now the biggest engine you can put in a mech is 400, limiting it to only 300 is gonna make a lot of assault mechs mad

also, keep in mind the lights will be faster once their bigger engines are allowed, right now the net code prevents them from using their biggest engine (esp the spider) because the current max speed in the game is 150kph, they didnt bother giving mechs anything more powerful that would would push them 2 fast

the catapult has a max engine size of 315 which gets it to about the starting speed of a raven...how many ravens do you see at 80kph? the cat is a heavy desigmed for high mobility. the Treuchet has a higher engine cap and the Jeager seems to have the same. I agree that some of the engine caps are wonky but not with your slant my c4 get's mauled by lights all the time unless I go into battle with an anti light loatous (LPL and 4 streak 2s)
