I've asked in 2 ATD threads now, how they plan to counteract poptarting.

It's been ignored both times.

So now I'll ask here, does anyone know of any dev posts pertaining to anything to discourage poptarting?

Also, nice to see they're now consolidating questions in the ATD [/sarcasm]

Poptarting is just an extension of "shooting while jumping" which is not exactly a very recent or original strategy.

Just shoot them when they pop up. It's like whack-a-mole.

Don't stop moving either, but that applies to uh... all the time.

By extension, every time you crest a hill, fire a shot and then retreat back down below the crest, you are pop-tarting.

Most of the time, depending on the distance, they drop too fast to get a solid shot off on them.

All they need to do is add cockpit shake/bad convergence while JJing.

Not sure why this needs to be addressed.

The mech invests the tonnage and crits of their mech to carry the Jump Jets. They are allowed to fire while jumping... something even the table top rules allowed for. It's a good tactic in certain circumstances, but not really different than mechs moving forward our of cover then reversing back into cover. Or walking up and down over a ridge crest. And, they are remarkably vulnerable to return fire while they are ballistic in the air.

Why should they eleminate "poptarts" anyway?

Clearly the solution is to eat them.

You should be more concerned with just how much sugar and junk they put in those things. Why not have something healthy, like a bowl of bacon.

JJ in TT gave you severe accuracy penalties. It does the opposite in this.

add more shakin to the jumpin.

a shake while the JJ are being fired. but not in free fall. i'm sure they can find a way to implement that
not too big of a nerf though. 4 tons for JJ is a big investment. and should see a fair return.

Poptarting is a great tactic and if I have to give up 4 tons/4 crit spaces on my CTF-3D to use JJ I'm going to snap up and down to shoot you.

Just because it isn't some ra-ra ritualistic circle of equals BS doesn't mean it should be removed.

Did you just say poptarting increases your accuracy?

I don't think it does. That said, JJ's ARE pretty smooth. I wouldn't be averse to a bit of rumble-shake, at least while they are firing.

If you can figure out their arc it's simple to hit them by shooting where they will be not where they are, if you don't know how to compensate for your targets movement it's you that needs to learn how to lead a target.

Listen to this man. I love pop-tarting in my 3D, gets me 2-3 kills reliably and keeps my KDR around 4.0, nothing to see here, jumpjets are well designed, move along now.

You're a good shot who presents himself as a target rarely. Nothing wrong with that. You carry 3-4 tons less guns than other people as a trade-off. I've seen some very good pop-tarters, but the majority are pretty inaccurate.

MWLL did it right. Shake all the way to the apex which makes it much harder to line up a shot. Only the fastest / most accurate will be able to pull off shots mid flight which makes pop-tarting still effective, but much less common. *I love y CTF-3D.... especially with arm lock... dirty ******.

Must not be removed, but it must be much harder to hit anything while jumping.
