Seems as if jump jetting at the moment makes almost no heat. But given the amount of heat necessary to lift 65 tons 40 or 50 feet off the ground... I'm beginning to think it could serve balance a bit better if jump jets were making a good deal more heat.

A full jump + two er PPCs should roast the mech making the jump, At this point, jump jets don't cost any heat at all.

Maybe we could find a middle ground?

Sure, as long as they give me a Module to make JJ's 20% stronger

why would JJs grant more heat? don't they work by using exaust from the engine or something? edit: if you're going to make a post targeting poptarts you might as well just title it that

Actually JJs do produce significantly more heat than running in tabletop IIRC.

Not going to point fingers... but they make enough heat... that if you're running hot and realize well I better leave I'm totally going to get raeped and try to JJ away you can and will kill yourself... a friend did that... only morons would manage that... it wasn't me...

Regarding the TT post, thank you! I wasn't sure if I remembered correctly, but I thought in the TT they produced a prohibitive amount of heat compared to normal motion.

Do they produce any additional heat in game?

I wasn't aware they generated any heat at all...will have to test this.

Omni, I'm looking forward to your results as I don't play any mechs with jets, and a teammate told me he was unaware of any heat being generated by the jets also.

So I was under the impression they produced near zero heat through use.

If this isn't true, I'd definitely love to hear it.

Thank you!

Pretty sure they do produce heat in game, however since weapons produce so much more heat in MWO than in TT, it'd probably be easy to miss.
If you want to make it hard for poptarts to shoot people just add some shake while in the air.
Please add aim-shake rather than view-shake though please.

I think they probably are adding as much as the TT value, roughly, already. You just don't really see it because it's not all at once, but spaced over the length of the jump. Since heat sinks dissipate slowly but steadily instead of a big surge every 10 seconds, you won't notice a significant rise in heat. If you're firing weapons and generating heat so that you're making more than your heat sinks are dissipating, the heat from JJ wouldn't really stand out against that other heat.

i don't use them but NO. they are designed to create heat so it makes sense the intended heat is reached. where as weapon slots can run anything from a tag laser (no heat) to a PPC (mucho heat) so each area is a multi use slot sort off (not talking about omni slots) white hot light makes more heat than fire does unless it's an AC that makes no sense really thinking about it. but rulez its rulez

JJets should generate heat only after their fuel has been exhausted.

Jump Jets used to generate heat. on TT it is 1 heat per jet. We are generating thrust enough to lift multi ton vehicles. Flame throwers do heat why doesn't Jets of plasma coming out our...backs!

Sure, make JJs generate lots of heat....because the game needs to suck more.

Make proper directional jumpjets, then we can talk about heat.

They do create heat. I use them on my Treb which has a bunch of energy weapons on it. When not jumping I can fire significantly more than I can while jumping. I'm not certain how much more heat it generates than walking or running but remember walking and running don't generate that much heat in this game. You notice it though if you are in a tight firefight and jumping.

JJ's insta heats you to ~20%(in a Spider at least) which is more than enough IMO. It's especially very hard to JJ and use energy weapons in Caustic.

Actually, no, Jumping had a min of 3 heat, but you got 1 per hex moved...so if you moved 2 hex, you gained 3 heat, but if you moved 6 hex, you gained 6 heat. Running you got a flat 2 per hex moved. So using JJ in TT was not all that harsh on the heat scale, was basically the same as walking once you moved 3 or more hexes.

Or

Page 39 of that last one

If you had a JJ capable mech, jumping from place to place was better than walking(usually the same number of movement points) since it generated the same heat and you could freely change what direction you were facing.

Why? All that will do is exclude energy builds. People will just use gauss instead

i don't see why JJ should favor any weapon group over another

No, they're already taking up enough in build weight.
