consider you can fire them in low/no oxygen environments the answer should be yes because they would use solid fuel propellant.

Is there a Dev or Command Chair post anywhere that shows how much damage the different kinds of Ammo go off for? Or is it all the same?

But yeah easy way to find out, load up a mech with a crap ton of narc ammo and jump into a game and try to die. Don't have other ammo obviously.

Real life aside.

Ammo explosion damage is calculated by the damage the amount of ammo would have done if fired from a weapon.

Since NARC does zero damage....

According to Smurfynet it does explode for two damage.
http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/#ammo_types

Edit: Forgot five and two are different numbers. Also, I think it might be that much damage per round of ammo left... but I don't remember.

MW:O sets the explosion damage for ammo sepereatly from the weapon damage. I believe the numbers are the same as the nbumber of shots * damage of weapon, but that is because someone entered the same damage there.

I believe the exact explosion damage can be found in the game files. It could even be that Smurfy has the info somewhere in his program. Or the Mechromancer tools have it.

The destruction of a hit location does not automatically trigger the destruction of an item installed in it, as far as I know.

Your best guess at testing the NARC Explosion damage might be to take a single piece of NARC ammo, put in a left or right torso, put no ammo on it, and then fire on it with MGs. This should guarantee the NARC will explode long before the MGs have destroyed the internal structure, and you will likely notice the damage spike as well.

If it is a very small explosion it might be difficult to detect. Such a low number of shots per ton and a small number per shot would lead to this problem.

According to the Bible (MechWarrior BattleTech Reference MWBTRv4-AAS) this is the answer:

NARCs fly exactly as SRMs do, and when they strike an enemy BattleMech or vehicle, they stick to it and emit a beacon for all friendly LRMs and CSTRKs. After an active NARC is on the field, LRMs and CSTRKs function as follows:

If they achieve a lock-on for a target, they go after that target. If they are fired without a lock, they immediately head toward the nearest friendly NARC beacon, even if it means turning 180 degrees. They also track the NARC beacon to the extent of their range.
