Will we be able to rent servers to practice with our "Team" (guild, etc...)

I think we're stuck on the actual server, so practice with the team will be against casuals in PUG matches.

Thanks for the reply. Does this mean that we wont be able to participate in leagues that existed during the MW4 days?

I personally enjoyed MW4 very much. I loved every aspect of the game - including the so called ' pop tarting ', laser boats (Nova Cat), big assualt 8 v 8's, 3rd person camera and much more. However, the thing I appreciate most about it is the bond I developed with my clanmates (teammates) after spending hours and hours playing together to be best team (in various leagues such as VL etc..)

I loved the ability to have user hosted servers because it allowed for team practices, custom settings (such as forced 3rd OR 1st person views depending on the match), tonnage limits, and more. Additionally, the exisitence of various leagues helped give me something to strive for as an individual (top individual on the leaderboards) and as a member of a bigger team.

The comraderie I developed with other pilots has been missed ever since I stopped playing MW4.

I don't care too much for which direction MWO eventually goes as long as teamplay is an essential part of the game. I want to be able to host practices with my teammates, participate in ladders & tournaments and anything else that helps foster a sense of community, team and comraderie.

I agree. The time spent in matches with only your unit were absolutely essential in MW4 to polish tactics, try out mechs, and just kill time between matches. This would be a great thing for the DEVs to add, maybe not for launch but for quickly thereafter. That bond building will keep players coming back for more. These matches would have to be made to add nothing to your C-Bills or game XP to keep those evil cheaters from cheating, but thats ok. Its a practice match anyway.

As far as "leagues" go those were a way to directly compete with others in MW4. Hopefully something like that is built directly into the game. Fingers crossed.

Side note, I loved MW4 Vengeance League, we were always top ten while active. Poptarting... kinda killed the game's feel, but dang we were good at it. DoA! WE RIDE!

MW4 will be the online experience to live up to, for sure. Most of the magic will be lost if we are stuck with dedicated servers, without the ability to host or customize the experience. Clan practices help the beginning of everyone's bonding and ability to work as a team. This needs a server. For clans that have a little fun with Blood Names and rankings, we need to be able to host servers for our different Trials.

Matches of clan versus clan (or units) was the premiere experience, indeed. This requires the ability to host as well. Surely the devs won't ignore the possibilities forever.

2nd EDIT: I misread your last post. My bad. You are indeed very very correct. Dang sleeping pill

Woa Woa woa. WOA! Haha, I dont think MW4 is a bar to measure anything against. By far it was my least favorite of the major releases as a game. What made it fun was people, for me anyway. So having a way to do recreate that is important, but the game itself. Nope. MWO needs to blow MW4 apart. Like an Atlas alpha striking a Raven. Direct hit.

EDIT: And I have faith that it will, now to go stare at the Artemis countdown while I dream a heavy metal (get it?) dream.

^Welp, MW4 was my favorite (online) MechWarrior, for more reasons than just the people.. but I can see MWO is shaping up to be different, though not drastically. I've been prepared for the transition.

There will be things like Tournament matches. Planetary contest matches in the Periphery between Mercenary Companies. The stakes will be high and between organized groups.

Sitting on a good planet will invite the best Mercenary Companies to challenge you for it.

I hope there are practice rooms, even if there isn't AI and it's just a shooting range/gallery.

The F2P game Tribes:Ascend shipped with this feature allowing custom servers, although in beta.

You just use the in game currency to rent custom server time.
Maybe people will only want a certain map's' to play on, etc.

I like the feature, I hope it flourishes more on Tribes and here.
Decent servers though, not laggy.

Yeah. Good, non-laggy servers that we could use for training would be amazing. Though I wouldn't mind training of it's a trial by fire style where you can only do it on actual match servers. Unless the other team is better, then I'll just get D:

They may open up Solaris to practice sessions. It would be a perfect arena for it really.

Umm yeah, trial by fire huh?

Nothing better than introducing new players to the mechanics of learning their controls for the first time, to be getting destroyed everytime they see an enemy who's been playing 6 months.

Trying MWLL my trial by fire went, log in, fidgit with controls, fidgit with joystick and controls more, walk out of garage onto battlefield, die quickly, log off. Repeat the following night, rinse and repeat.

I would love for there to be practice maps without any enemy mechs.

Teams could split and practice skills, learn maps, practice tactics, practice map specific tactics..

You dont earn any c-bills or xp, required to still repair/buy ammo if you expend it.

That's one thing I "do" like about the WoT's model... the "training" rooms... get the Clan together, split your forces... talk strats and run through it... see what works, what doesn't, and sometimes just for fun...

Hopefully we'll have something like that as well here... "something" like it...

I don't know about renting servers, but it would be nice to be able to set up and choose a map for team training and practice as well as testing Mech designs. If there were a way to do this without actually playing a match and incurring game stats I think it would be used often by everyone. Maybe they will develop this in the future.

it really helps to hop onto Teamspeak and hook up with other people playing. You stand a much better chance sticking with other people, and there's lots of vets willing to help out the new people.

Or just mention it to your team in in-game chat and see if anyone will roll with you. Noone should be ashamed to ask for a little help. ;)

Oh I know, the fans are great there. It served as an example for my point about lack of polished new player training though, but I left MWLL and the players in not the best of light, my bad.
The fans are cool, infact they try and take it easy on noobs, sometimes. :(

I do got gripes with my joystick not being fast enough in game, but that's just me.

FIRE STILL BAD! <_<

The ability to have practice/unranked/etc servers would be quite nice. ;)
