Night vision the brightness is way too intense so it is rendered almost useless.

The new Thermal does not work at distance it's more like infrared.
Posted Image

The old thermal vision works best for sniping at distance it actually shows the heat signature and changing temperaure between a hot and not so hot mech.

(Don't shoot the cat!)

If i had a choice it would be the infrared and thermal and forget the green or all spectrums as they all are cool and i'm sure each user likes specific after all it is 3049.

For the purpose of the discussion:
Nightvision(Green)
Infrared(Black and White)
Thermal(Predator)

I think here was the quote from the devs, that is important to your post.

"Both of the new vision modes have been tuned to work well out to a distance of 700 meters. This is intentional to re-balance the vision modes and ensure that no vision mode is vastly superior to any other, the goal is for the vision modes to be useful in different scenarios but no one mode should dominate all the time the way the current thermal vision mode has been doing."

Same thing happened with the Green night and thermal.. people would use thermal for up close, when up close green night was far Superior to thermal..

Thermal also had the draw back of in a quick glance you cant deal a live mech from a dead one.. and you could watch people shoot dead ones while live ones shot them..

There is a time an a place for each mode, and each one was made to be used in that frame..
Now i could imagine that with the extra vision modes, the need to toggle through them using the same key might be helpfull..

The new vision modes are WAY better than before. I find that I use all of them almost equally now, instead of just running around in thermal all the time.

Yes they changed it on purpose.

I don't like them however, they way they are now. The distance is too short and night is a bit too bright.

Both should be adjusted in particular, Themal needs more distance.

Map lighting could still use some work, but the vision modes are great as they are. No more sniper vision, no more obligatory heat mode when firing at targets over 500m away (and especially past 1k+), and now night vision is actually useful relative to heat mode under certain circumstances (before nobody used night vision unless they got too bored of blue sniper vision).

PS - Regarding range limitations, they're a huge boon to the game. Sniper vision was a terrible thing and PGI was right to kill it without remorse.

I know it feels really dumb that you can't see past about 500m with night vision or therms, but before they changed how the vision modes worked, there were really almost no reasons not to be in therms all the time. Much easier to acquire targets from range, on every map in every sort of weather condition.

I do think the distance at which the black veil descends needs to be upped juuuuust a bit for therms, and quite a bit for nightvision. NV isn't really useful or helpful on any map except river night right now, and actually makes it harder to see on most of them. It could also use a better HDR implementation- nightvision on river night is great, unless you brought lasers. It seems to be a very arbitrary penalty that every single weapon class gets to use NV without much penalty, but firing even two lasers just makes the whole screen go white while they're discharging. Good luck aiming!

You mean, abused anymore.

The new vision modes are all equally useful now...unlike before where nobody used standard or night vision and relied almost exclusively on thermal from everything from brawling to sniping all the way across the map.

From what I have seen for Night is people simply adjust their monitors GAMMA super high and use that rather than shift to Night vision mode. It is much better and gives far better vision at long range.

This clearly is a breakdown in the vision mode and needs to be adjusted.

Honestly the current vision modes are well balanced. There is no UBER vision which is always superior.

Yup, this.

When spectating, I noticed people playing at night without Night Vision. WTF?

Then I turned my gamma really high... ahhhhhh.

Hello I have sugestion about heat mode on snow maps. If you noticed snow in heat mode is realy bright grey.. almost white.. it look like as snow is hot as a mech. I think snow color in heat vision should be much much darker and mech should be visible as flare on night sky do to its reactor heat output... Or keep mech white as they are now but make snow darker to represent it is much cooler then mech itself (if you understand me) Now mechs are relatively hard to spot when they are not firing on snow night maps and there is snow hill or other snow terrain behind them. oposit thing is on hot terrain maps... mechs here could be little bit obscured by hot weather around them :-)
Thank you for reading this :-)

They they have mentioned that they were still tweaking the temperatures on the maps.

Yeah they probably are... My only real complain is about that snow color in heat mode. If mech is white and snow is white too, it is sugesting, that this snow is realy hot and not cold as it should be. So I think simple solution how to fix this is make snow color in heat vision look dark grey or almost black or something like this.

Yeah, that sounds about right.
