I have wondered about this myself. With the amount of clothing and how hot the cockpits are supposed to be inside, the pilot should have died of heat stroke long ago.

If they do change the pilot so they are half-naked, I suspect the player base will immediately want to be able to pick the gender of the pilot.

Because our pilots don't have sweet backstories or books written about them.

Because the flavor was missed that the cooling suits are something like lostech at this point in the Inner Sphere, but they do exist. Clans still have them though, so the misconception goes the other way too sometimes.

I'd assume so the pilot can be considered genderless, and/or because the Devs felt like it?

On the note of fluff flavor, I'm kind of missing the feeling of two very very angry mechpilots screaming at the top of their lungs in fury as they stare at each other from powere down mechs. Ahh, those sweet, forced moments of patient glory that I miss from TT/MW.

And if you're going to add in the half naked things, well, remembering some of the old official art, them womens was anything but sexy. xD

No they won't.
All players are male.
All players will want female pilots.
Just make them half naked females in the cockpits. No choice needed.

:)

well it is kind of fallacious to think that all mechwarriors of all factions, houses, units and time periods dress the same or use the same uniforms. even elements with in the same unit may not use the same uniform, so why should a marik militia mechwarrior wear the same uniform mechin' suit as a genyosha mechwarrior or a cruicis lancer mechwarrior?

what they wear with depend of several factors such as personal preference, unit uniform SOP, supply, or what the commander said to wear.
me personally would wear the flight suit. F-that going commando LOL

I never really got the reasoning behind how little pilots wore, it just never seemed the best way to keep cool is to get sweat-covered and bake in your cockpit. Did they have that workout fabric that wicks away sweat in the 80s/early 90s?

Razors and hygiene products are lostech? So, future space legs are hairy all around and the pilot would still be non-gender specific. I think I'll keep the pants.

Merky Merc does not want boiling hot liquids and metals dripping or falling onto his exposed skin during combat. Merky Merc also wants to be able to survive should he have to eject. Ergo, Merky Merc wears a suit.

Flight suit up, bros.

At that point it's no longer a cockpit.
