So PGI's profiler brought to my attention something that I originally though was the profiler's fault - it said I only had 4 gigs of memory, on a system that has 3x2gig sticks in triple channel. I check my system and lo and behold; it tells me I only have 4 gigs... ***? After doing a bit musical chairs with my DIMM slots, I isolated the problem to 1 of the sticks (and thank god it wasn't a slot that was toast). When I originally assembled this computer in August of 2010, the parts that I used that were manufactured by OCZ were the SSD and the 3 sticks of RAM. 2 months ago that SSD that had been giving me a massive headache from day 1 finally died, and now not long after that, one of the sticks goes bye bye. You suck OCZ.

Thankfully, the new SSD is a Corsair and so is the new RAM I bought - 3x4gig sticks for a total of 12 gigs and thank god RAM is cheap these days. I know I sound like a fanboy but when I assembled this computer, I was proud I was able to get a solid machine at a good price, however it turns out I paid the price for my cost cutting. The most reliable system I ever had was the one I built in 2004, the core 3 components being comprised of a Pentium 4 Northwood C, an Asus P4E Deluxe mobo and a whopping 512 megs of Corsair running in dual-channel. That bad boy never blue screened, froze or locked up on me once... EVER. Lesson learned, I'm going back to my original design philosophy - find deals but don't try and swing down to the lowest common denominator.

OCZ always sucked. In the past it was discovered, that OCZ bought rejected memory parts from other manufacturers, retested and relabelled them as their own (may be with different specs). hardware.fr sometimes makes surveys on retailers for failure and return rates of different products. OCZ had very bad numbers for SSDs last year and it got even worse in this year's survey. (Though keep in mind that it is questionable whether these types of surveys can accurate project themselves into the real world.)

Didn't know OCZ made RAM or SSDs. Hmph.

But I do own two of their modular PSUs and have absolutely no issue with them on that product.

Good thing I never cought OCS... But it sucks to hear that you encounted such a problem. I knwo that after busting my rump for each piece of my rig that I would have a royal FIT over a part dieiing because the manufacturer used rejected parts. Though for me I personally like G.SKILL RAM chips. Reliable, well made, never failed me and sell for a good price(three $GB chips for just $70? Yes please). They also look darn good.

I just got an OCZ SSD, recommended by Tom's Hardware... Vertex 3... its in the mail right now.

I'm sure it will be fine... looking at those numbers I have better chance of getting in the MWO Beta than getting a bad HDD from them. And those are numbers I like.

The newer generations have improved firmware, but in the data shown from that French source lists the previous ones, ones that my old SSD was a part of. It was horrendously unreliable, even after the firmware upgrade.

The only OCZ part I've purchased (avoiding their SSD's due to all the reports of failures/bluescreens) was a 2.5" tray for a 3.5" bay for installing an SSD into my wife's PC. For two of the builds, I had used a Mushkin adapter tray which worked flawlessly. For my wife's build, the Mushkin was out of stock, so I ordered the slightly more expensive OCZ adapter tray. It arrived, and I attached the drive to it, and then... the drive rails refused to attach to the sides of the tray.

Turns out OCZ uses a unique, smaller screw size for the sides of their trays, completely incompatible with drive rails from most case manufacturers. I had to basically dismantle the rails and drive the OCZ screws through them to attach them to the tray. When I complained about it on Twitter, an OCZ rep tweeted at me and gave me the third degree, implying that I was incompetent. Eventually I detailed what had occurred, and the rep's response was basically "LOL yeah we use non-standard screws."

TL;DR: I've heard nothing but bad things about their hardware, took a risk on a minor product, got burned and insulted for my trouble.
Never again will OCZ get money out of me.

It is telling that OCZ no longer makes RAM... it was that bad.

Where I work we used to sell it - and moved quickly once we discovered the failure rates we were having. We now use Kingston mainly, and have less than 1/10th of the failures we had with OCZ!

BTW, if you are looking for SSDs - go Intel. I have two of their original X25-Ms, and they work great. We use their newer drives at work, and they are still great.

I have also heard decent things about Crucial's C300 and M4 lines, and Samsung's 830-series, but can only speak personally about Intel's SSDs.

Buy Crucial. Made in the USA, and most there stuff has a lifetime guarentee.

Or Kingston HyperX if you want to support Esports.

for the longest time i used only OCZ parts.... then i had a stick of ram fail... then another stick or ram... now recently it was a OCZ PSU and a SSD that failed. Now i will never touch OCZ again... Kingston ram and Crucial SSD and Corsair PSU from now on.

Mushkin Enhanced disagrees.

Both make good memory though, Corsair and Kingston are good choices as well.

don't see any were on there were it says that mushkin buys from micron(the only manufacturer of memory in the usa) which is who crucial buys most of there memory products from, including ssds.

My wife, my best mate and I are using Crucial M4's as cache/secondary drives.
So far they've been fantastic, but we've only been using them a few months now.

Oh great, because I had just had to google "OCZ no problems" and "OCZ never fails" just to feel better about my purchase arriving today.
