I have tried all the trail mechs and I just die instantly in all of them. There is no tutorial in this game and I'm getting qued up with really good people who have been playing for a while and I just get shat on.

What is going on with this game?

I can't do anything against anyone, I can't figure out how to even control my mech (barely so)

There are several issues working against you right now:

SHS vs. DHS.

Low ammunition loadouts on stock mechs

Armor distribution on stock loadouts (due to weapon convergence)

The best thing I can tell you is that you should play as many games as possible to complete your cadet bonus and save up as much as possible to buy the mech you want.

The only other option, if you can not wait, is purchase MC and just buy the mech you want.

Left of the LAUNCH button you can chose testing grounds.

You can get used to the controls and shoot some dummies.

Press ESC to get into Options than to see the keybindings.

Your first few matches will be the hardest.

Once you own your first mech and Elo kicks in - you will have a better time.

The learning curve of this game is pretty steep - don´t give up -i think it is well worth it.

What is a cadet bonus?

I can't even tell where my health bar is, people said it's the bottom right but that is a picture of a mech, not a healthbar.

Also I played Hawken and did super great but when I play this game I literally just sit there being awful.

Try the Testing Grounds first. Then try to stay in the background while your team starts the fight. Don't rush into unkown terrain until you know where the major part of the enemy team is. Check your back as Light Mechs will attack from behind, and they hurt. Don't leave your team for going solo, even if it is tempting...often lone enemy mechs will try to lure you away, then a group for 2-3 will suddenly finish you off. Always stay near cover to dodge incoming LRMs (an Awesome or Atlas teammate is good cover, too).

And then: currently playing PUG is a death sentence. It depends on the play time, during weekendds and evening hours (US) premade teams will happily kill off any beginners in PUG games. It's really frustrating, even if you play pretty good usually, you will probably loose every game during these times, as coordinates premades will just stomp you. PGI still seem to think that it is smart to bring PUGs and premades together - wrong.

You will get a massive credit boost the first 25 (?) matches.

Enough to get you started in your own mech.

Chose wisely tho -you get much less credits after that.

Edit:
QUOTE FROM PATCH NOTES:
* New Bonus called Cadet Bonus: this bonus is rewarded to new users for 25 games. The math is calculated by: log10(gamesremaining) * 300,000 CBills
* This means you will receive 424,492 C-Bills after your first match, decreasing each game until you've played 25.
* After 25 matches you will have received a total of 7,981,686 additional C-Bills.

I figured out a good strat to not die, I hide in a random corner and shut my mech down, this way it's hard to find me and I can live through a match for once.

Seriously consider joining a game group. Organized players supporting each other with comms like TS are going to frustrate you. If I need help, all I need to do is ask and have a couple guys backing me up. You are also likely suffering the effects of focus fire where a group of guys (usually the four hanging together) call out a target and concentrate fire until you die. Even a scouting player will often have another light supporting him or a buddy with fires support in the background. Unless you get really good fast, you are likely to burn out from frustration. If you have TS and a mike, I have a low intensity group of guys looking for some new members who can show you the ropes. www.1st-Rangers.com Fill out an app and ask for assignment to Yankee Company. I have 11 members in that company who play for fun, not competitive focused. I also have a slot in Whiskey company if you like it a little more serious. You'll enjoy the game a lot more when you play with friends. Good Luck, if I see you online I'll send you a friend invite.

It not your normal shooter take it a mech into the test grounds get flimer with the controls and get a mech you can work on and you'll start to understand. Remeber its not a normal shooter. Your health is based off of what is left of that mech no color means that part has taken no damage, yellow = light damage, Orange = moderate damage, red = heavy. Black or gone well its gone. Lose your Center part or head part game over. have a XL engine and lose either the right or left torso gone. Lucky ammo hit on a part that has no Armor might be gone as well. It will take time understanding this game.

Wow! How do you report people? If you use the shutdown and wait for the match to end thing people on your own team will point out where you are.

Actually, we have members who formed the unit a year ago down to members who have only been on a few days. The Yankees are mostly 35-45 yr old and are mature enough to help you along. We were all new once, and after 6months, I'm still no ace, just good with paperwork and helping new guys like you.

I start to think you are just trolling here.

Pity as people really try to be supportive here.

If you are serious.
Just stop shutting down
That is unfair towards your team and bad for your reputation.

I would also call you out.

Go to the Training grounds.

I'm not trolling, I'm seriously tired of dying all the time and I want to just live for one match. Why is it unfair? I don't understand.

you are not supposed to just "shut down and wait for the match to be over", because the match won\t be over until the enemy kills you or you kill the enemy team.

However, if you need to report someone, send an email to support@mwomercs.com

Sorry, I'm dumb as a sack of bricks, why is this bad again?

Goodness, I just walked out of bounds and I was so far out of bounds that once the timer started to tell me go back or die I couldn't possibly turn my mech around fast enough to run out before dying.

It is a team game.

You create a 7 vs 8 disadvantage for your team.

Your egoism makes it an uphill battle for 7 people.

What is egoism? Why is not wanting to die egoism? Also why do LRMs do 1% total damage? Why even have them at all?

Also I can't figure this website out, where to join or whatever. I guess I just won't then?

There's no point to it. Even if you went down doing 1 point of dmg, it would be better.

It only serves one purpose, delay the winners their prize and lock people out of their mechs for longer.

Now, of course, there is a good use for shutdown in the right situation where your team needs a few more points to win by cap, but since they're calling you out, that's not the case.
