There isn't an auto shoot type function. I didn't post the vids so I'm not sure what you are seeing as "auto shoot". If you have 4Mlas set to chain-fire it will cycle through the weapons and make it appear you are shooting a non-stop stream of lasers just by holding the button down, but aiming is always on the player.

That first video is a bold faced lie! LRMS do no damage or very, very little! He said they're nice but when I hit someone it does 1% or less.

Unfortunately, LRMs got slapped hard (too hard if you ask me) with the nerf bat and a single launcher is better used for suppression then actual damage dealing. I don't remember exactly how LRMs were when that specific video was made, but LRMs have a history of either doing insane amounts of damage or being nothing more then a nuisance. They're not an easy thing to balance.

Plus, that wasn't the important part of the video :l

This is very odd, Suggestive. You sent a friend request, I accepted and then tried to get you to join a group with us and you didn't take it. I also am watching our website and have not seen your application. When you go to the Rangers homepage, all you see is a picture of a Scout, Line, or Firesupport mech with "APPLY HERE" buttons under them, after you press the button marked "APPLY HERE" it takes you to an application page with full instructions on how to apply. Not sure how I can be much more help unless you fill out the application or accept a group invite....Oh, if you don't know, next to where the "friend" invite was you sent me is a "group" invite. When it is flashing, it means someone is trying to invite you into their group for a drop so they can play, and possibly help, you.
I thought I did all that, I signed up and everything and I dunno what you're talking about in game.

Suggestive,

I'd recommend hopping on the 4chan /vg/ thread if you can find it and talking to some of the Kong guys. We're constantly helping people learn the ropes in this game. Alternatively, follow the link in my signature and get on Kong's Ventrilo channel, which is listed in our thread. We don't bite, and if nothing else we can give you some pointers in a much quicker fashion than you'll get from posting. No signups required or anything, we're pretty friendly like that.

Well, all I'm doing right now is shutting down on these points and it makes my team win... so I guess I'll just keep doing this for a while.

I signed up for that other guy's thing, I don't think he'll let me in, and if I join yours I'll just frustrait everyone with my junk...

You don't lose money when you die.
You also don't gain any extra money if you just shut down.

The best thing you can do is follow the main group and stay behind them a couple hundred meters then target lock anybody you can see and fire at them.

When you die, spectate someone that has similar weapons as you.

I have been playing less than a week. I died every single of my first 25 games.
I only got 3 kills in all 25.

Now I have an hbk 4sp brawler. AS of last night I have finally gotten more kills than deaths. I have finished top of the chart a few times with both kills and damage.

All of my learning has come from fighting and learning from what I did wrong and spectating.

Just have patience and keep at it. Death means nothing at all in this game.

I dislike vent and I dislike 4chan, it's to negative for my tastes.

It demoralizes me and I dislike how I can't do anything. Shutting down wins the game which means more money anyway...

Just because you shot someone in the "face" doesn't mean you landed a head-shot. Check out this guide to hit localization posted in the forums.

it doesn't matter if you die.

Use you death to spectate other players and watch what they do. Your not going to learn anything if you just leave.
You certainly won't learn how not to die if you don't try something different.

Play, die, spectate and the next match try to not do what you did to get killed last game. I would guess you are trying to brawl instead of staying far enough behind the front lines to not be an obvious target.

Yup, once you are dead you can leave and drop in a different mech.

And the 10/10 from the other poster... I believe that is your score in the trolling event. Looks like he thinks you did quite well.

No like, I'm trying to not fight at all because I just die instantly despite mech.
I don't understand what people are doing so why should I spectate them? Like, they're just shooting people, which is okay I guess? That's what I do? Well I miss but whatever same thing.

Do I do that by pressing quit match? Also neato I guess? I didn't know I was in an event.

Apparently I'm too slow and stupid because when I do that it just results in me getting killed in one shot. I really do not understand how I'm suppose to play and it's really getting me frustrated. Like, I wish this game had arrows on the screen to point me to where I need to go, I NEED my hand held.

I have been playing since December and I am still all but useless in a light mech, even a Raven-3L with a 295XL, twin medium pulse and twin streak-2's (not to forget the BAP and ECM). My advice (your milage may vary) is to pilot the Stalker trial mech. You will still die, but with twenty single heat sinks and six lasers, it is manageable. At over 270m, fire the large lasers. Within 270m, fire the small lasers, or the SRM6's. If you have a target lock and have nothing better to do, launch the LRM`s, but never expect them to do anything. If someone is running across a flat expanse and they are more than 180m away (but less than 1000m), also fire the LRMs. You will overheat, but a Stalker with a standard engine can survive shutting down in the face of enemy fire (provided there are not too many of them). When you lose a side torso, you lose half of your energy weapons, but have more than half of your heat sinks, so you can fire longer between shut downs. The Stalker will forgive some mistakes. While it does not respond quickly, the Stalker does respond precisely. Killing light mechs takes practice and, to quote hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, you miss every shot you do not to take. The trial Stalker's twin SRM6's will distinctly impede the efficient operation of a light, when (if) they connect. Light mechs are easier (still not easy) to kill when they are circling someone else, so stay with the group so someone is there to shoo the lights away (I once killed three lights as they circled various team mates in a single battle-- so satisfying).

A good first mech is the Catapult-K2. PPC's are often accused of being easy mode, because they hit like ballistic weapons, but do not run out of ammo. Within 90m, they do progressively less damage, but the -K has a pair of medium lasers. Ditch the machineguns and ammo for two more heat sinks.

They rotate the trial mechs, not all are junk. Despite having three Stalkers, when the -K2 was the heavy trial mech, it was my fun ride, so I added one to my mech lab when there was a sale.

If you like the Stalker and learn to use the lasers effectively, the cadet bonus adds up to enough money to get a Stalker-3F. Buy it, pull the LRM launchers and ammo, and make up the tonnage with single heat sinks. This will give you a brawling potential to give some people pause, and still have the large lasers as long range weapons.

I lucked out. When I was starting to play, the trial assault was the Stalker-3F. In the beginning, my support of my fellow team mates consisted of drawing fire away from the stronger players, and I did not always succeed at that. Often, I walked out from behind cover to my death, or was gutted by a light mech. Eventually, I got better and could drive off the light mechs and damage the enemies in combat. Do not pump fire into a shut down mech; unless, you know it is an enemy. My first kill was a team mate.

When I first discovered that I could look up my stats, my kill/death ratio was 0.43. I have now clawed my way up to 0.56. To my annoyance, I am still only at my best in a Stalker.
