Of all the SRM combos, I prefer SRM-4. Tightest firing, best firepower, best weight/slot balance in my opinion.

Cool. Yet another POV. Tightest firing as in less chance of losing rockets due to terrain?

Tightest in terms of spread. SRMs spread when fired, sometimes really wildly. A bunch of SRM-6s is a lot like a cluster of shotguns.

4SP is a great beginning mech. Many would suggest it before the Centurion.

If only I knew earlier, but what inspired me to purchase the Centurion CN9-A first was this MWO video about it and how its a good beginner mech. I read on wiki about all the different variants and narrowed it down to CN9-A because the descriptions says it's all rounded and versatile, something I want because I'm unsure what type of specific role I want.

This is the video:

(Removed to make the page easier on computers.)

The narrator said "If you are unsure of what mech best suits you, this is an excellent choice."

Seen that back in the day. I miss the map videos. They stopped doing it at River City. :)

Though this one was very appreciated.

I should note that damage wise, the Streaks and SRMs do a lot less compared to what they used to. Apparently they did more than remove splash damage; they got an epic nerf according to Smurfy. I'd be very unhappy right now.

So... streaks and SRMs are UP ATM? Well, looks like I bought the wrong catapult mech variant, should have went with the K2 instead I think.

Don't know how they perform; they might still have the splash damage multiplying what they deal.

In the mean time... It seems that Zhizhu has been active without me. These are recent screens posted by our LordRed.
Assaultfox (Awesome), Shaggydog (Hunchback 4G? 4H? Hard to tell), and Shards the Broken (Catapult K2 with twin Gauss), and camera man, Lordred (Commando).

Wow, very nice high resolution pictures.

I like those kinds of pictures especially the first and second ones. Both of them have this theme of "comradeship" and "teamwork".

The third and fourth picture, nice pose. The Catapult looks awesome. A K2 variant... interesting.

Your favorite AWESOME? Sounds... AWESOME! (Get the pun? XD)

If I recall correctly, the AWESOME is just another missile boat, something similar to the catapult. I assume it's not as tough compared to the Stalker and Atlas.

Awesomes depend on the variant. The 9M is a light chaser. The 8V and 8R are meant to be missile boats. There's another one that is entirely a PPC rig. You can see all but the 9M in my Awesome collection.

Thank you on the pictures. They're Lordred's. I wish mine could get that same quality but he has custom settings on his cfg file.

Myself I just use the user.cfg line "cl_fov = 75". It gives me that wider field of view, as if I'm sitting back in my seat instead of having my face so far forward.

Hmm about the Catapults, it seems the most widely used variant is the K2 for it's notrious ability to carry 2 Gauss Rifles. Terrifying. X_X

You can cripple them easily by destroying a side torso. Gauss Rifles explode.
Lots of things can do that. Hunchbacks and Centurions included (but limited to one).

One of the early days with the Yen Lo Wang. You'll crack up around 4 and a half minutes in.

Also for this video, chain firing your missiles? I thought you can only do it in a group weapon.

Raven 3-L's left arm launcher is a NARC. Single tube. So if you put any kind of missile launcher in it, they fire 1 at a time.

So I saw this video. Quite impressed by the amount of teamwork and leadership going on in battle. I'm also surprised that every mech at least has something specialized like your stalker with 4 LRM and TAG. Even the Atlas had 5 Large lasers.

Near the part where your Stalker was about to go down, to your right on the map there was a cataphract. I'm surprised that it didn't help you repel the light mech that was harassing you, but instead tried to mimic your role but with less firepower. Well, your commander did say only scout mechs to help you...

ESports, looking forward to it!

The YLW video with the gauss rifle, that was pretty funny. I didn't know that gauss rifles can push back a target.

Dedicated to our roles. We were going against a very experienced, tournament-worthy group. We had to take down their big guys, so one light wasn't a concern. They are easy to take out later. LRM boats are always difficult to save, and often become expendable. These days being less dedicated to the role by having other defenses goes a long way.

Btw, Atlas (RS) can only carry 4 Large Lasers. Atlas D and founder's version can carry 3 (4 energy points, but one in the torso only offers two slots which is taken by one LL). Atlas DDC can only carry 2.

The YLW video was during the end of closed beta. If you're talking about the Jenner in the air, it died mid-air and became a ragdoll. Hence the video emphasis on it, and the snippet of an OLD, OLD Combat Arms video where someone hacking super jumped to avoid a shotgun, just to get headshot in the air with a pistol by me. Otherwise all that comes to mind is a knock-down or a lag glitch (which happened a lot back then). It's been a long time since I used a gauss rifle since their explosions severely damage the mech using them.

Got another day before I can get my computer functional enough to run the game again. So if anyone else has questions.

Oh on the missile comment I had earlier.

So, I'm pleased to announce my very first Centurion CN9-A variant build, accustomed to my liking. Unfortunately, my build isn't as unique or different compared to the stock version, but with all available weapons my Centurion CN9-A variant is IMO very flexible and versatile (except for the speed department)

<a href="http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=7&l=00684afa7efe9149a07c18156b7c1040226a454b">CN9-A</a>

It's not fancy smancy, but it seems to work for me.

Do you think I can further improve my centurion mech? I am thinking of swapping the AC/10 for either the Ultra AC/5 or the LB 10/X Autocannon. Though I have never tried both of them, the Ultra AC/5 from videos and reviews I have watched is often prone to jamming which can be frustrating at times. The LB 10/X Autocannon is also surprisingly expensive costing a hefty 800k for one gun.

I think my Centurion CN9-A is fine for the time being. With regards to speed, LRM helps nullify that and aid firepower support from far away distance. I thought of getting a XL engine for the mech, but reviews that stated that XL engines are troublesome for medium mechs because often times when the right and left torsos gets damaged, the engine will blow up.

I thought of getting a better standard engine, but that's all I can really afford to put in now.

To me, this mech is played as a support mech with the AC/10 and LRM. When brawls happen, I switch onto my SRMs and medium laser and AC/10 giving me a good brawling firepower.

In combat, for Long Range engagements, I launch 2 of my LRM 5s (both of them are 2 tons while a LRM 10 ton is 5 tons thus I use it to free up 1 ton of usage). Occasionally I use my AC/10.

For medium range, my AC/10 and medium lasers seems to do well.

For close range and in brawls (not alone) or close range support flanking, my medium lasers SRM and AC/10 does the work.

Overall, very decent mech IMO. I like to see your opinion about my first build, thanks!

So, first build of mine. I wonder what do you think of it ;)

Two main concerns. Lack of speed, lack of armor. An STD engine 200 will only keep you in the 50 to 60 kph range. Makes for an interesting collection of weapons though, definitely unique compared to many others. The other is the armor allocated. I may be reading this wrong since I don't use it much, but it looks like it says 36 center front, 14 center rear.

My Raven 2x sports 38 armor on the front and 6 on the rear, so you have less armor than a light.

Other than that, your main weapon for close range is the AC-10, with medium lasers to back it up. SRM-2 I would consider to be an emergency weapon. LRM-5s to harass at range until you run into an enemy or until you get close to someone. Be very protective of that right arm. Your left is expendible, so if you see something like a K2 or a ballistic user, don't be afraid to spin your left arm in their way.

How does yours perform so far?

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a772dd5ad64c925 I just designed a Centrollian. If you try it, isolate the flamers into one group and chainfire them. Any other weapons in a different group.

And an experimental one I just made. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...2cd9932be585878
