I would love to have integrated voice. I don't play all my games with my group, and even still, if we have a little group of two, it would be great to talk to the players on my team without having to type it all out. That's the inherent weakness of so many TS teams, is that while they communicate with one another, call targets and such, they neglect to talk via chat with the rest of their team.

This game is NOT meant for the casual gamer. PGI/IGP's efforts to make it so will only hurt them. Any serious gamer already has and uses vent/teamspeak and is already in a guild making in game VOIP less important then OP claims. But yeah, in-game VOIP with mute options would be great.

While I agree with most of what you've said, I can say that not everyone is in a guild and even if we are, we may still drop solo as often as not. In my case my "guild" won't play because we can only be in groups of 8 or 4 or less. This leaves people without groups and thus many of my friends won't play at all until this is resolved/changed.

I drop solo quite a bit, and I drop with small groups of "guild mates". In both scenarios, even though I have TeamSpeak, it would still be beneficial to have an in-game voice option to communicate with the rest of my team.

Remember, just because it doesn't seem like a casual-friendly game doesn't mean it can't be. We WANT it to be profitable for PGI, because that means we get to keep playing, we get content, and we get noobs to kill or noobs to recruit ... We want casual friendly AND deep and complex.

My biggest worry is that an automatically turned on VOIP would expose me to that small but very loud subset of game players who trash talk, bully and harass. As it is I see an amount of homophobic, and/or sexist slurs tossed around, and currently it is just by text. I don't want to add the thrill of being told by a 10 or 12 year old to go suck my own junk to my MWO experience.

You mean there is a grey area between the black and white!? Imagine that.

Err what a silly thing to complain about. Woudlnt there be tons of trash talk over coms in a post apocalyptic warring societies anyway?

Just use it to fuel your piloting.

In addition just use the mute button if your that sensitive (in addition to moisturizer).

Actually EVERY depiction of mechwarrior I have seen has had coms talk in the cockpit between both friendlies and enemies. Even the, books Cartoon series, even the intro CGI movies of mechwarrior 2, 3, 4 etc, which are games.

Why should a game you actually need to play lack it...

A sweet version would be something like you hold X or a mouse button to bring up a coms window, and then you can highlight, all, team, or specific players on your team only. and then when you hit the mic button only they hear it.
