I vote for the king of the hill idea. Might need special maps for it though. One base in the center of the map. First team to get, say, 3 minutes of possession wins. Maps would need decent sniping locations and plenty of terrain cover around the cap area, but the base itself should be fairly open and vulnerable. I'm thinking of a large crater with a slightly raised plateau in the center. This kind of mode and map would emphasize tactical maneuvering and teamwork, such as baiting opponents away from the base while a friend get's on the point.

It should work.

I myself would probably never play king of the hill. But Im not against having more game modes added to the list. More modes can only improve the game.

I have to agree with your map, but it only represents solo play, not team play. Actual teams would be avoiding the obvious locations on the map. ie The middle. A team sitting in the middle of the map can be flanked from everywhere. Not a good place to be. But yes, solo lone wolf games would be similar to your map picture. I can see teams gravitating towards TDM while lone wolves stay away from it and play assault.

No, teams pretty much did it too. Sometimes, in a competitive league match a team would think outside the box and go into one of the other areas to flank. But that same 'sometimes' happens with PUGs too, both in MWLL and in MWO with the same frequency.

Here's a video of a scrimmage between two units in the area I circled in red:

Your challenge suggestion would only work if the game mode was actually TDM and not assault. The presence of the bases changes the line of thinking and decision making, forcing limited outcomes. I have already played the game with my team, and used every possible strategy in this mode(its a small number) to great effect. Pug stomping I believe its called. Use base cap to force enemy to split up, destroy fragments with main force. Or rush base with main force bypassing fragments and cap and a couple other common tactics. Its not rocket science. You cant get loners to play TDM because the mode is not TDM. Your challenge is redundant.

I challenge you to get 7 solo players to group up, and camp somewhere else on the map other than your base or the enemy base(Or the middle) and see what happens. You would end up killing a few straggler lone wolves while your base gets capped. You really cant play TDM in assault. You can try to reason it out, but its impossible.

Its doable if you force them to. What I wanted to see is if you could charm them into it. That would show that the players Ingame also favor the style of play. If its not possible, then the poll isn't showing the proper statistics. What you are suggesting is we need a game mode to FORCE players to play like TDM when the game mode pops up for them.

And I didn't say to stay in the base 8 mechs deep, I said stay close enough to it so you cannot be ghost capped. That still gives you alot of flexibility. And you can't make challenges until the one issued first is completed.

Having perused your thread I see all your responses to those not in agreement is 'you don't matter beacuse you don't want TDM, stop posting'. Can I ask your goal in this thread, because you cite the higher 'yes' to TDM as validation for your argument, but nay-say anyone with an opposing opinion.

He's obviously trying out for a job in PGI public relations. :)

Don't like Capture? Bring a balanced mech in PUG or a balanced group in teamed, respond to base capture warnings and don't expect Atlas convoys to be good at everything. Baserush groups ALWAYS LOSE if the defenders are ready for then, as turtling trumps zerg.

But hey, That's not a yes so your troll answer is on it's way...

Really, all you needed to see is that he couldn't nut up and put an actual "No" option in the poll. I do care and my answer is "No", so I didn't vote, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

A fair poll someone else (also a TDM advocate, but not a blindly zealous one) posted. TDM is losing in that one.

It also got some Devs posting there, even if they are being a bit snarky to the TDM crowd. I think I'll be moving my discussion there, this thread's getting a little dead.

What you are describing is assault mode. It doesnt magically become TDM because your still making decisions based on the presence of a base. Only when there is no alternative objective present, does it in fact, become TDM and the decision making process is changed.

You didnt even read his post did you.

And no that poll is not winning. His "no" votes dont even come close the yes vote count my poll has.

Edit: Just checked, his vote counts are nearing even. Give it a couple days and his numbers will be similar to mine.

Those kinds of matches were possible in MW4, as most maps had several drop zones to pick from, but usually when someone created a 3rd or 4th team, it just annoyed people and was more like griefing.

Thats how a poll gets more votes. The more votes it gets the more accurate the results. The real mods dont seem to care about it.

Did you tell a Mod he wasn't real? Antagonizing those who decide you are bumping a post with yet another "bump" that insults them as well... not wise. ;)

As much as I like the philosophical debate about what a volunteer moderator can or can not do, it is completly off topic.
I can assure you, I have the authority to do the things I promise to do. The same goes for all the other volunteers.

Now get back on-topic!
