What? Someone is playing with a trackball?
That's esoteric and I've never seen anyone be effective with that device on any game. I'd be interested if you could post a gameplay video of yourself playing.

I'm sorry if I'm being insensitive and the controller choice is caused by a disability of some sort, though the gameplay video request still stands, because I think it would be even more interesting.

I actually used a finger trakball from an old laptop during my CS days, and even know people that used a gamepad (The entireT-Hawks clan, for example.).... A trackball is essentially nothing more than a ball mouse flipped on it`s head with the axis inputs reversed. But that particular miniball (was only 8mm in diameter, flanked by the left and right buttons) had such a high sampling rate that I was able to set the mouse sensitivity to 2 and still barely have to twitch to aim, it was just fabulously easy. ;)

I once had a HUD glitch where I couldn't tell team from foe and couldn't even type, no crosshairs, nothing. So typed in the situation though no idea whether the message got through and raced as fast as I could, avoiding teammates to go through tunnel on forest colony to cap (safest thing I thought). I passed some mechs heading in the opposite direction just passed the tunnel outlet and turned in that direction after getting to their base. About 10 seconds later a Raven arrived from the direction I expected to be followed from by the opposition. I was running a Centurion with 2 MPL and 3 SRM6's and got him with one alpha partially to the face (taregtting was off as I didn't have cross hairs) and he just stood there a bit and came closer. I assumed he was a bit of a dullard and killed him on the next shot after focusing to re-adjust my aim. He was, of course, a teammate who had followed my lead. I was called all sorts - noob, teamkiller, etc etc. I tried to type to explain...but that was bugged. Not a glorious moment.

Well this isn't exactly my crowning moment of glory, but here's River City Night with a SplatCommando (4 mins+):

12 SRMs doesn't need that much fine aiming but still needs some control.. I don't have that many videos; A 2 min version on Alpine:

This one the gunnery wasn't great, for some reason I keep mis-gauging the Cat. Can't miss when snuggling with an Atlas though.

I'm using a Logitech M570 trackball. In performance it doesn't lag behind a mouse and the non-movement does make it easier in some sense. As long as you keep the trackball rollers clean the movement is precise and smooth, you do have to turn down the pointer speed to make it good enough to aim precisely with it.

2. Someone running across your field of fire right as you press the trigger.

I got a TK because of that one. Light on my team decided to walk in front and hug me as I was firing my 3 SRM6s. He got everything in the back and sploded.

Situational awareness and fire discipline are great real world elements that make up this game. FF avoidance really should have a training vid with tips ( sweeping upward to avoid hitting teamates etc.)

Woe to the person who chimes in... ' well 3rd person would help avoid that '.

FF happens. No big deal.
Stupidity also happens, also not such a big deal.
It is when you combine those 2 elements that things can get a tad funky. LOL

What about indirect friendly fire? Get the missile incoming alarm look around tallest nearest structure is your Atlas buddy standing beside you. I bet he could tank those better then my Raven...better move behind him...

1 and 2 can be avoided by looking around you before shooting, though.

Explain to me why its my fault that a teammate got shot when he walked in front of my mech?

Thats like saying its the drivers fault that you got hit by a car because you didn't look both ways before crossing the street........

My other one is that I will kill an enemy mech with 4x ML's and they will hit the friendly mech directly behind them will get the second half of the laser focus.

I have honestly only twice made a critical error shooting a teammate. #1) was firing on a powered down mech that was a AWS-PB that looked just like the one I was dueling with, but alpha'ed an AC20, 3x SRM6's, and 2 ML's into his CT. Didn't die but it got him killed 3 seconds later. #2) I killed a mech with ML's and it killed a Friendly mech right behind him as well. Not much I could do about this one IMO.

IFF (Id Friend or Foe) is important, but paying attention to surroundings including friendly mechs tend to cause most of the FF incidents.

I only get pissed when I get shot at in the back at the start of a match, that should never happen. I had my Jenner 7-K get a leg blown off due to a 6x PPC shot into my leg at the start of a match.

After the match I forgive but I do remember the name just in case I see him in the OPFOR in the future.

Well before the massive LRM nerf, or even buff for that matter. Dropping some LRMs on a light in a circle fight with beat up friendly fast mover. Friendly catches the LRMs instead. Happens occasionally with heavies and assualts since Atlai have this bizzare and uncontrollable urge to hug EVERYTHING THAT MOVES and friendlies you did not know where that close caught some of the splash.

First time in an Atlas, decided to drop into the tunnel on River City. A Jenner decided to squeeze between me and the wall as we dropped. After the requisite rebounds and stutters, I had a scuffed arm and he was dead. More smoosh than fire but was hilarious.

A jumping jetting trenchbucket on my team took two ac20 to the rear trying to kill steal. Was zoomed in waiting for the cooldown to finish as the other mech I knew had no armour and red internals, and had overheated.

Literally as I fired, the treb dropped in and boom, rear armour gone. The ***** ran out the way as the other mech powered up and took me out with an alpha while I was trying to make my slow moving jager out of line of fire :P

Went back to an XL engine after that.

Otherwise most damage I receive is either MLAS or LLAS fire from Atlas pilots, who always seem to forget their lasers are coming out lower than their cockpit.

This is idiotic. I am not your babysitter, if you cannot learn to not stand in front of the big gun then that is your problem, not mine.

I really hate when people throw the kill steal term around. It is a team oriented game and requires the entire team to win.

I have TKed a Jenner who jump jetted over me and dropped right in front of me. He caught both gauss rifles right in his back. Same happened while I was all zoomed in and a Raven ran right in front of me.

Im on your side if someone runs in front of an assault and get the alpha in the back is an *****. And i love the Hunchis who runs in my cross. They miss and the enemy can get away cause while i cant firing without killing this dumb teammate.

That is exactly the point. This is a team game, so why are you facehugging that enemy mech preventing anyone else from shooting? Do you have super secret weapons that no one else has that only hits at point blank range?

Recent one of mine was heading straight towards the tunnel on river city with an enemy cat straight ahead, trading shots and just as i fired twin ac/20 a TM in a jager walked straight past the entrance, didn't kill him but striped his RT down to red.
