we all know they want to introduce 3rd person view
And that most (90%) of us don't want to see it happen

What I would like to see instead is any kind of rear object detection
AKA : Camera, Mirror , Laser ETC

we have a bunch of monitor in our cockpit that have ABSOLUTELY no use, why not make one show a rear view ?

Discuss.....

With a third person rear view camera, you could stand behind a ridge, turn around and use your rear view to look over without exposing yourself.

It should have view that is a compressed the full three hundred-sixty degree circle around into a one hundred-sixty degree arc.

The problem is that the engine they are using is not up to handling the task, nor really capable of doing a good job at running MWO, but it is all we have since they own the IP rights.

3rd Person View is still only needed by kiddies and is unacceptable to players who are above the age of 12.

Have a selection of external cameras which are destroyed when the body part they are mounted on is destroyed.

e.g. when rear CT armour is wrecked no more rear view camera.

You could have one facing down from the waist (to allow you to position yourself or accurately see low-level obstacles), perhaps shoulder mounted ones, etc.

Mount a monitor in the cockpit and set something like the numpad to switch through which feed you are viewing.

This will allow strategic use of things like shoulder cams to try to check around a corner, but would still involve you exposing part of yourself (in this case the shoulder) instead of just seeing around the corner via a 3rd person cam while never leaving cover.
It would allow people who can't manage their legs vs. torso to keep the in-cockpit monitor displaying the view downwards from the waist to see which way they are facing while giving no advantage.

Thx for necroing a thread about 3rd person view.

Just when it looked as if PGI completely forgot about it. Good times...

I'm not sure how that happened... I was on page 1 of the feature suggestions forum.

Perhaps a post before mine was deleted? *shrug*

Of course I'd like rear view (also down view for DFA).... but this has nothing to do with 3rd person so I'm not going to vote. 3rd person is coming it doesn't really matter what your philosophy is.

3rd Person View and Rear View have nothing to do with each other. Your argument is invalid.

IIRC, the engine of MWO does not handle multiple views (thats the reason for the UGLY enhaced zoom). So As long as i would love to be able to have the monitors on our cockpit useful, our eyes might not see this happen in MWO

Probably somebody voted in the damn poll. My bad then, not your fault.
Blame PGI's web devs for not designing an anti necro solution.

Not to mention that PiP display is not friends with CryEngine (c.f. Advanced Zoom).

I guess I missed a thread awhile back and I'm sorry if this is a rehash. But I do not understand why PGI thinks 3pv is a good idea. I just don't get it. We pilot big robots. We are IN the robot . So where/how does 3pv come in?

Is it so players can see the cool camo they bought and their awesome power moves? OK let us get an option to watch (and save) the match we were just in. That would be also be valuable as a tool to see what we did right (from 3pv) and what we did't.

I would like to retain the ability to go 3rd person using the F4 key as is, however I also really believe that we should have a rear camera view. The way they did this in the demo for Starsiege (Sierra) was to give you a 3rd person selfie view in which you could obviously see what was behind you.

Whatever you guys say about hardcore realism etc. 3rd person should remain a option. You don't like don't use it. I'm sure they heard hundreds of requests for 3rd person views like in MechWarrior 4 or this game or that game. World of Tanks will be the biggest competition for players and that game is in 3rd person. You want to attract the players from that game you need to make the transition easier for them to try the game. More players playing means the game can expand and grow and be the game we want it to be.

3rd Person View doesn't even help new players learn the game... it's a terrible viewing mode that barely shows you more than the cockpit view. Someone tell me how having arm lock and no minimap helps newbs learn? Take. It. Out.

Also yes to rear view camera. It's not advanced tech...

Too bad!, the rear camera puts to much strain on the cry engine it was a sweet unique feature in MW4.
