Hey everyone,

Well it was a surprise to me seeing this trailer released at PAX east this year.

What do you think about the trailer "Go Ballistic" and the what I believe revealed is Rhonda Snord's custom Highlander battlemech?

Such a practical camo pattern on that splat cat.

The trailer is titled "Go Ballistic" and the one sequence where they show a decent bit of dakka (0:55-1:00), is a Cataphract being destroyed by one large laser. Trailer should've been titled "Go Energy"

Maybe if that Cataphract mounted something other than ac/2s it would have got the kill?

PPCs completely outclass ACs at this point.

The trailer showed off a mech we already knew about, no new game modes, no maps, didnt talk about anything people cared about, and didn't address any of the games problems with previews of fixes.

The highlander looks cool at least.

You aren't comparing an AC2 to a PPC were you?

If you compare an AC10 versus the PPC you get very similar range and 1/3 the Heat for the same damage.

I'm comparing PPCs to all ACs. An AC/2 weighs 6 tons, 7 if you want any ammo. A PPC weighs 7 tons with unlimited ammo and far more punch. Yes, they're very different weapons, but overall PPCs are just better. Instead of wasting tonnage on ammo, you can put more heatsinks in to negate heat issues.

I think few people would try and argue that AC2s aren't solidly non viable in the current game.

I love AC2s as much as the next guy, especially quad AC2s, but they require an insane amount of tonnage for all of the ammo and heatsinks needed to sustain the fire. I think they should weigh less, maybe 3-4 tons so we could have a somewhat lightweight ballistic that isn't the MG. But that would go against TT and therefore will never happen. Who needs balancing anyway?

At the rate PGI is flailing around, it'll be 2 years before this game is properly balanced. MWO will be long dead by that point, at the rate things are going.

It's a nice trailer, but they need to review their music selection.

They'd be ok if they generated less heat. They have a very high DPS and the games best range, but as a weapon they are almost totally useless. They're exceptionally hot. A 6ac2 jager with the maximum possible double heat sinks will overheat in something like 2.7 seconds of firing them.

I should hope so! 24DPS would be a complete nightmare if they could sustain that fire.

Yep, reduce heat and tonnage. Then you might actually see people using them. Then we *gasp* might have a use for the Jager DD. And don't even mention the 6 MG DD. If anyone uses that, they're a burden to their team.

Naw man, naw. AC2 Jag-S. 4x AC2, 6 tons ammo. I easily out dps myself in it over the 3D poptart. I don't steal all the kills as easily, but way more utility if you position and aim well. Sustained fire has advantages over a HOT sniper.
