I can only share the most recent info publish to the forums from the devs. If you feel otherwise, fine, but Im gonna believe what the head of the company said just over a month ago until such time as I have information to the contrary. Also, I dont want every tom **** and harry to be able to make maps, because they have ZERO culpability should things go wrong.

Stone, first off, I never saw this.
Second, we've been through over 9 pages, no one mentioned it until toward the end of page 9 when I asked for someone to show us this.
Third, don't act like a douchebag toward me, man. Over 100 people liked the idea of user generated maps, IF there was a way to come up with a reasonable solution to review the content first via fan/user volunteerism and then to have a 3rd level to have the dev's review it afterwards to make sure it met to QA standards of what PGI wants for a map.

Garth has now come on here and I'm just jumped on into this and all we are looking for is to see if we can HELP PGI in anyway we can to reduce costs to help PGI out. If this can be done, great. If this takes time to work through, fine. I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here, but if this is in any way possible, why can't we look into this and see if it can be done. Let PGI check this out and see what they can do with the lawyers. I mean, what's it going to hurt?

But dude, I'm just trying to help. What are you doing? Trying to tear the idea down. Again, I'm not trying to be a **** to you here, I'm just trying to help.

I appreciate the desire to help PGI on this and to get us more content out. And that is commendable.

Unfortunately not everyone is so altruistic, and there is no culpability on those who make 'offensive' or just plain bad content, wasting the time/money of PGI reviewing the material.

RB, I hear what you're saying. What some of us have proposed is to get different levels for the user content to be considered at.

Level 1 - other users check out the content
Level 2 - moderators can act as a possible level 2 to check out content and recommend it to dev's
Level 3 - dev's check out content that's considered 'worthy' of review and can give it a yes/no/needs more work/rejected due to questionable content/rejected due to ilegal used content.
Level 4(?) - further review from dev committee to use content. If given a green light to use, they will contact creator for content and inform him that they will use it if the creator will give rights to use it and set up lawyers to confirm. If consent is given, it's all good, we get new content for free, PGI saves a boatload of time and development costs, and everyone is happy.

And right now, I think PGI is dicussing the possibility to get this going. However it's going to take time and effort to get done.

Dude, im not being a douchebag to you. Relax. I AM expressing my opinion on the matter of player created maps. Lets just chalk this up to a misunderstanding aiight?

Peer review?

Ok, that's something I can get on board with, as long as it's filtered on the way up so none of PGIs resources are wasted because someone wanted to make a phallic shaped mountain range or a map that is so poorly designed as to make Asteroids look high tech.

It's an interesting suggestion. Cannot say that it will happen as that's not my role, but it seems like a good one worth passing on to the developers.

What I can assure you is this: Regardless of the long term plan, this is something we are definitely not able to consider at this time. Moderating and testing user made content can be a nightmare without proper tools available: While some may indeed be CryEngine3 wizards here, it's really a bit overwhelming to guarantee user made content like this without a custom 'campaign editor' and/or an established framework for review. (inb4 inappropriately shaped landmasses)

What about a brute force map checking utility, that checks for map geometries that are likely to get a mech stuck, or cause oddities with weapons fire?

I'm hoping you guys have this already, but it seems like this would be a useful bit of code, as even just yesterday I got stuck on a building edge after jumpjetting.

Such software could be made to optimize to spend more time around sharper geometries, and quickly go through open flat areas. One possibility would be to have it run something equivalent to the game's engine, without the graphics, and as fast as possible, and try all the different ways to jam the different mech types at a map point the program is checking. The program would then give feedback: did the map pass, or was there a failure, and if so, which places.

I believe a piece of software like this would make a big difference in letting community maps be possible, as well as help you, PGI, with faster map production and QA time. Also, we'd be happy to run the tools on our own created maps, so it wouldn't even take your processing resources.

I am no software guru, no gamer hardcore, not even a forum veteran,

That having been said, I have followed this thread, read all the posts.
What i see is passionate players, and a responsive company both wanting to make this game the best it can be.
Kudos to those who started this thread for your passion and ideas.
Kudos to the devs and moderators who are going to put this near the top of the wish list of things they want to see in this game (for the players and for themselves). I can only imagine that Russ and the other programmers have done maps and user created content for other games that they played and loved in their day. So I know if it is possible they will try to pass on that joy to others here. If it is possible. Everyone agrees it is not at this moment. And no idea how many months or years will pass before this idea will come to pass.
But if it does come to pass it will be something to see, of that I have no doubt.

And thank you to everyone for your passion for this game / franchise.
It is what will ensure it will be around for a long, long time.

Ok guys, at this time, I think we've brought this to PGI's attention sufficiently and that they have indeed taken notice. With this, I have been asked to start a thread post with rules on fans/users/players to submit MAP CONTENT ONLY so we can show PGI our talents. Here is the link:

http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__2142622

Folks, I cannot stress this enough, this thread is for two things ONLY:

1) A place where fans can show off their fanmade map content and display it for review and comment.
2) A place to discuss ideas for fans/users/artists to talk about ideas and review submitted content.

THAT IS IT!

Any other discussion not pertaining to those goals will not be allowed. We're doing what we can as fans to show PGI that we are indeed worthy and can help create maps just as good if not even better than PGI so they can consider them for submission.

Also, this is considered a "LABOR OF LOVE" thread. You will not be compensated if you submit anything. You are there to show off your work and show PGI that they need to seriously consider this idea.

With that said...

I just want to thank everyone here for stopping by and for keeping this thread fairly civil. I'm extremely proud at the response and for us keeping this topic ADULT enough to where the thread didn't degenerate into a fraking mess. With that said, thanks to all who came by to review it, like the idea, make this thread popular and keep this topic in the main light so the DEV's would take notice. Thanks to all that commented and submitted their ideas. If you would like to use this as further discussion regarding this that's fine, but I feel like I've accomplished all I can possibly accomplish with this and pushed it as far as I can go.

With that said, I need a break. Thanks again for stopping by, and let's start to see the fan submissions at the new thread!
