So I've been looking between the classic Battle-Tech Vulture/Mad Dog and the one from MW4 and I was curious if they were different chassis variants or if MW4 just took artistic license.

I know this will prompt some people to try and "correct" me, but I honestly thought that the MW4 Vulture looked MUCH better than the Battle-Tech version. With the more heavily armored arm-guns, the chin turret and the heavier looking armor on the legs, the MW4 Vulture actually looks like a heavy mech.

It's just a simple redesign in the Mechwarrior 4.

There's no telling what will FD (the artist at PGI) do with it next year. :(

I actually DO like the MW4 version a bit more than the original, although that chin-turret makes no sense to me. Whatever.

Also, the MW4 version was not a different chassis, just a redesign with some artisitic liberties.

It is artistic license. I am with you Rabid. The MW4 vulture looked better IMO as well. The BT one always looked too fragile. Like a stiff wind could break it. Also, if it was suppose to be raining down twin LRM 20's on people, I could never figure out where all that ammo was stored. The MW4 vulture is an improvement.

Well, they could also pull out the MW AOD click version... The Mk IV there is a beast...

I liked the legs and torso from BT, but the arms from MW4.

It may just be me but besides the metal figures, werent most battletech representations artwork themselves? I feel that they are all just general concepts that will change and evolve with time as more artists get their hands on them and they are re-imagined. I liked the old images but I appreciate the new reinterpreting, as long as it stays in the ballpark for the old mechs I like.

I have always prefered the original.

The redesign is too much of a departure from it IMO.

I thought the chin turret made a ton of sense. The twin MPL in the turret and the LPL's in the arms could track targets faster. The LRM's in the torso didn't need to be perfectly pointed at the enemy. LRM's home after all.

Actually I'm with the MW4 group on this one, though i wouldn't mind seeing FD make that version look a little sleeker.

I would like to see the mad dog make a comeback. I thought the mechs in MW2 Mercenaries were so cool. Anyways hopefully they will throw the clan mechs in the future and maybe some other vehicles while their at it.

That MWLL concept art is ancient.

Even this shot is a bit old, but I don't have a current one handy.

Actually I have to say I like both. It's a mean-looking mech in any case.

Though I definately prefer the original arms. They give the whole machine some sort of aggressive, powerful vibe the redesigned arms just can't convey.

I was introduced to MechWarrior 4 before BattleTech, and ever since seeing and using the Vulture in that game, whenever I think 'Mech' I automatically think of the Vulture from MW4.

Both look pretty good to me, even though the second picture from Sarna takes a lot of license. Personally though I don't think either one is beefy enough, because there's no room for Missile reloads. Hopefully when the Clans come FD will make a Mad Dog with enough room to store missile reloads ;)

When compared like that the original Vulture looks more like a medium mech than a heavy. It's just too... spindly IMO

Judging by the number of missile tubes it looks like they may just all be loaded pre-mission. Which would also allow for the possibility of using them ALL at once! lol
