Pay For Beta

I just wanted to ask what is with the newer games coming out that are FTP.. in Beta... that have a cash shop already up? I thought beta was there to help test the game and in return players get to preview content before the final version. Wouldn't it would be a good idea to give your testers unlimited money to buy/test/break your game before it goes live?
The reason why i ask is because i just downloaded this game and it seems to be pretty buggy still. I can forgive that because it is a beta but i would have a diffrent view if i purchased anything from a cash shop. IMO if you open a cash shop during beta, as a customer, it feels like a cry for help/money. You want people to pay for a broken expirence instead of polishing a game and releasing a final product that players can add to.
I'll be back after this game goes live to see what the final product is like. It just dosen't feel rewarding enough to test a game and put up with bugs to get half the products expirence.

Think of it as a pre-order. You don't have to contribute money towards development, but if you do, you get the benefits immediately instead of after release.

This isn't really a beta anymore. That's just a bolony tag. When it was in beta, they did give us free MC to spend and had resets. That ended last fall. This is basically a released game, regardless of whatever tag they want to put on it.

An interesting perspective. I personally think the game is worth playing right now and am enjoying it. While you wait for a finished product to begin playing, I think I will enjoy the advantage of more experience as well as an acumulation of mechs to choose from. I think more likely, you just dont like this game.
Heres a hint. If you dont like the game right now, you probably will not like it ever.

Pretty much. This is a feature that every dev team wants functional with minimal to no bugs from day one of official release. No working cashshop in an F2P title, no cashflow and one soon to be very dead game.

It should be in Open Beta until they get all the items posted in the Dev Blogs into the game & working, the big one for that being Community Warfare.

That's actually a good point. If the cash shop was buggy, I doubt there would be very much of a game left to buy stuff for lol

hence the 3rd person shoehorn decision
It hasn't been shoehorned as it's not even in the game right now. You can't judge the quality of something without having seen or heard how it will work, even if you don't think you'll like it.

I guess im having problems with entitlement for support. If im having problems running the game right out of the gate then maybe i should wait before i buy anything. To me beta was always a cop out to experiencing bugs. The same thing with free to play. No ownership then no right to support the devs will get to it when they get to it.

The game is getting better, much better than it was in August. That does not mean that there are not setbacks and other issues that need to be addressed. All in all I think PGI is doing a good job and things are looking good, but aw always, others disagree (some quite strongly).
I suggest that you give it a try, but be aware that one of the major concerns right now is the "new player experience", it needs some more work. But once you get into the game and start learning how to kill other mechs this game is addictive.

The only time Ive talked to support was a month and a half after the game went OB. A month before it went OB my grandfather (whom I lived with for nine years) died. I went up to Maine for the funeral and during the time I was up there, hurricane Sandy hit and I got stuck up there an extra month. Prior to leaving, Id sent in a email saying I wanted my refund, I didnt like the way the game was going. Where I was in Maine I didnt have access to the internet. I was stuck there a total of two and a half months. During that time apparently, as I said, the game went OB, and apparently that meant my refund request was negated.
Even though I was out of contact with the internet attending a funeral. But apparently thats not a good enough excuse.

There are a few F2P games out there that have been OB for years. That way they can do massive changes to the game and don't have to refund anyone

The company almost went under developing the original mechwarrior 5 while Microsoft kept insisting that they turn it into MechAssault 3 with no customization, exterior views, etc. It got dropped. They turned to the contracted production of Duke Nukem, though it failed to impress despite the quality that existed in it, the job saved the company. The founder's program not only saved the company again but allowed them to actually hire some people that had some clue as to what they were doing. A lot of improves have occured over the original, and their team has expanded quite a bit. Personally I think it was worth spending money early.

Sorry, but if those are your system specs and you're not able to run it for more than 5 or 6 minutes there's an issue with your computer or your settings. I have a 5 year old system using a Q6600 Quad core with 8 gb of DDR2 ram and a 512K 8800GTS and I run the game for several hours at time with 50-60 fps.

Tech support here actually works fairly well, at least the fellow I have worked with a couple of times. Although, that said, my issues were not for 'technically-get-the-game-to-actually-run' issues... for me, the game has always run quite well on my older Ph2-1045T and ATI 6870 hardware.
Give them a try -- they can probably help you through it.
This game really doesn't at all play like Hawken. And none of the mechs here look like TVs with legs, which is a huge bonus in itself.
