Yes, I consider those games releases as well. Just because an industry, or segments of said industry, has found a way to get people to buy incomplete products doesn't mean I'm giving them a pass on it.

"So you can buy our X43 experimental vacuum cleaner now, and you'll be paying 20% less than whoever buys it at an unspecified time in the future when we decide to bring this vacuum out of the testing phase and into the market. I mean, um, the market that is clearly different from your ability to purchase it right now. Oh, just so you know, it only works on half of the planned surfaces, the reverse mode violently ejects the contents of the device almost instantaneously, and every other week we update its software and it sucks even harder than usual (get it? sucks?! trololol) for unspecified periods of time, but we also may or may not be adding a new feature during this time period (for example, we may enable the self-propulsion mode for a week. And that may be accidental). Oh, also, depending on what kind of funding and resources we get from the people who pay to test our incomplete product, we may never get the funding or results we need to release it (Please don't realize that you paid to test a broken product for the promise of a future discount that will never actually exist, and very likely be near irrelevant due to inflation anyhow)."

Guess I'm not as thirsty for the kool-aid as some are here. OH YEAH!

Confirmed troll. Thread over guys, pack it up.

PGI: Hey, this game is a Beta, meaning it's not finished yet. Do you want to play?

You: Sure, I guess. Why not?

PGI: Hey, while you're playing, did you know that if you want to get stuff faster, you can spend money?"

You: HOLY ****, I CAN SPEND MONEY? THAT MEANS THE GAME MUST BE FINISHED NOW!

PGI: .... What? No, it's still in Beta, it's still not finished, but if you want to spend money...

You: Yeah, yeah, whatever, dude, here take my money... wait... this game isn't finished! You LIED to me, PGI!

This is... perfect.

Oh, you mean games that aren't open to the public and don't sell things?

Yeah thanks, gold.

Uh....they all sell things. Not sure what you're smoking.

Would much rather call it a Beta then some company's recent horri-bad bug-filled releases. Atleast they are being honest. As for the purchasing of MC, think of it a donation with gifts in return. You are purchasing it to support the Software. If that's not your thing, don't. Give them time and let them perfect their product. It is refreshing that a software company takes pride in their work instead of constant crap. Take Notes EA!

Are you telling me you would actually BUY that product? And then have the gall to complain about it, when the product was plainly advertised as such? When the product is plainly advertised as a Beta, you have no right to expect anything else: In fact, it's downright stupid to expect anything else.

Not only would I buy it, but I would buy decals I could stick on it and a little figure of a vacuum cleaner I can stick inside the chamber.

Yes they do? Well, not Star Citizen anymore, but anyone could have bought into their kickstarter campaign. Marvel Heroes has the same founders program as MWO and MW:T (and their "ultimate package" is 200 dollars, lol), BS:F has an in game store for convience upgrading of units and PoE has various items you can purchase with real money.

In case I wasn't clear enough in the OP, I have no problems with my own investment and may actually put more money into the game (though I don't delude myself into thinking its a beta because someone stuck a blue word on a logo). It's very relevant to my interests and I enjoy it despite its flaws.

However, I don't drink the kool-aid enough to realize this nonchalant attitude toward the game's issues isn't a turn off for a very large amount of people. A number of other founders on here are some of the worst about that, sadly. Some newer user will have massive issues and get the "it's a beta" reply. No matter what kind of label you put on something, when the average person buys something, they expect a certain amount of results. If they don't get results, they expect good communication on why there are no results. Both are commodities in low supply here at the moment in the eyes of a lot of people.

As someone who enjoys playing this game, and has no problems investing in this game, I think this attitude is something that needs to be addressed for the good of the game. The "it's a beta" culture is having a negative effect and I'm not a fan.

(Might as well add this to the OP).

OH LOOK ITS THIS THREAD AGAIN

Star Citizen and Marvel Heroes are glad you just defined their games as release!

Edit: Oh, and also Banner Saga: factions and Path of Exile

i didn't know those games held weekend events.
heck i didn't know it was normal to hold regular events and tornaments for your beta testers.

I think people like you need to stop cutting PGI slack. all your doing is validating slow/poor game development. And thats not doing PGI nor us players any favors.

No, at least two on the list are in a gated beta that require an application to enter. MWO is free to the public, advertises everywhere, requires nothing, and has a giant download now button on every single page. Oh, it also holds contests, has prizes, and weekly sales.

and those games are barely in beta as it is

WHAT THE HELL IS BETA ABOUT A GAME EVERYONE CAN DOWNLOAD, SELLS THINGS, HAS SALES, HAS CONTESTS, AND ADVERTISES HEAVILY.

So are we now qualifying release as a game everyone can download, sells things, has sales, contests, and advertises heavily?

Well then Final Fantasy 14 and WoW are no longer release because it doesn't have sales, really sell anything (FF14), and only people who buy a subscription can download.

Really really old games also weren't released after all I guess cause you can't download them anymore.
