Srm4 does 6 damage currently. That's same as a medium pulse laser. Adding two of them with artemis which adds +2tons and +2 crit slots seems like a big waste to me. Here I upgraded your build to use srm6's and you lost nothing in return. I still think it's a bit low on ammo.

Two SRM4s aren't wasteful enough so you upgrade them to SRM6s at the expense of CASE and the armor protecting your legs and ammo? Doesn't make sense to me.

It's probably a better idea just to pull the Artemis and use standard SRM4 and 6 launchers with a lot more AC/20 and SRM ammo. Keep the AC 20 ammo in the legs and head and the SRM ammo in the arm next to the case and SRM launchers. With a standard engine, the CASE will still allow the ammo explosion to kill the torso and arm. The arm will fall off if the torso goes in any case. But the center torso and standard engine will still be fine and you can continue fighting with the AC/20 and one large laser. Although honestly, most veterans will want to aim at that AC/20 torso first, so you may be finishing the match with your SRMs and the other large laser at least as often.

Another alternative that can work is to use 3 Streak SRM 2 launchers instead of the standard SRMs. With the Guardian ECM there, you can use those streaks as effectively as any Raven or Commando and you'll have two or three times the armor as any light mech. That can be a really nasty surprise for any light that engages you up close thinking his speed is keeping him safe.

But otherwise, those are all alternatives. The build presented isn't at all bad in my opinion.

Yeah I find that if I am in 1 on 1 with a light there are much bigger problems than that light. So streaks... meh, I provide ECM cover for the big metal robots that have a tendency to follow me around. Artemis really works to tighten up the spread of the missles these days, which nicely allows me to focus down a torso on most anything that isn't a light. Also heat is a bit more managable running two 4 one 6 as opposed to the old school triple 6. Finally, 3 tons of AC20 and 3 tons of SRM is fine. I rarely get a chance to expend all that ammo. I almost always lose the AC20 so why take more ammo for a weapon that isn't there. I can see taking the Artemis out though, its very much a luxury upgrade. I have to run it through but if i could fit two Large Pulse and some more DHS that would be even more fun.

Thanks for the advice.

Case is crap, and your legs still have 65 armor. You sound like some over protecting mom who wants to wrap her kid in foam when you go to the playground.

I sound like mechwarrior 3 and you banged my mom? Yep yep... what are you some 8 year old kid? Loving the irony in your post.

My advice: take off CASE (putting armor in the legs, head, and arms does the same thing for free), take off armor from the arms/legs (Atlai generally don't need stock levels of arm/leg armor), put in SRM6+Artemis and more ammo. Also I dunno if those armor ratios are the ones you're using, but you generally don't need that much on the back. ~70 for the RT/LT and ~100 for the CT will help you keep your robot and guns online longer.

Case certainly isn't that bad if you have more ammo than can fit in the legs and head. Actually, I do know where this is coming from. If I can fit my ammo needs to under 5 tons, that is where I would put it and I wouldn't bother with CASE. But honestly, I have had my own Atlas killed from ammo explosions a bit too often when I needed 9 tons to keep 2 Ultra/5s and 3 SRM 6s from running dry mid battle. So it has become a hard choice for me, and a hard lesson to learn.

Speaking of which, the Streak 2s aren't all that bad against big targets along with little targets. An ASRM6 and 2 ASRM4s end up weighing 10 tons total, while 3 Streak2s would be 4.5 tons. I can imagine with the extra weight savings and the second ballistic slot in the D-DC, the one AC/20 can be replaced by 2 Ultra AC/5s for better range, DPS, and heat efficiency, and still have enough room left for 3 more double heat sinks to help support the large lasers.

Something like this? AS7-D-DC

Then again, it might end up needing a lot more ammo.

I rearranged OPs build for efficiency.
I think it will run hot in big fights, but that's up to you.

I run a similar build, no artemis, more DHS. After the SRM nerf I dont find it's worth dedicating another ton to each SRM pack, though now it is more justifiable to do so.
