"Hey, why does this mech suck so much? Why am I Heat Monster? WTF, this game is stupid."
PGI didn't add an option for Stock Only Filter, even though they added Stock Mechs to the game (and yes, a person would say, "So what? We can customize things," but a Stock Mech should exist in a playable format in some form, like a Stock Only mode, where you are matched with people who also want to play stock only, where a stock Trial could have an easier time).
They also made how heat works terri-bad where SHS is just straight bad or a certain weapon is straight up bad. The best example of that is a Catapult-K2 Stock, PPC's can't be fired much or you become a Heat Monster™ and 2 of the weapons are unreliably bad, the MG's, because PGI balanced them bad. Hence Heat + Weapons on it can't compete.
To further explain what I was saying, if they allowed a Trial Mech to "skill up" like Hawken (getting better heat disappation upgrades), then it wouldn't be bad, because they would still have the skilled up stuff when they buy it. And to further reiterate, even an non-skill upgraded trial mech in Hawken can kill things and not overheat like crazy.

I find your contributions to this thread depressing.

If PGI can't think outside the box, then of course its bad.
Like giving a Trial Mech (in a stock form) added bonuses like a little better damage soak, giving the weapons better damage output, or heat dissappation or whatever. If that could be done without breaking the game, then cool, but I doubt it. At the bare minimum, heat is a main problem for a stock trial Mech, because PGI f'ed up with SHS and DHS. I've built stock record sheet Mechs in this game that used DHS from canon and they work absolutely fine, hence they f-ucked up by leaving SHS in the trash can.
I can play a craptastic Trial Mech in Hawken and still get top K/D and the most assists without overheating like crazy. Yeah I know Hawken isn't the same shee-it, but at least a Trial experience is forgiving where a Vet FPS player like myself can hop in and completely own people in their bought super Mechs.
And like you said, a Stock Mech game mode would be balanced somewhat with only Stock Mechs. I'm pretty sure MPBT 3025 did that or had that choice. They shot themselves in the foot by not giving a Stock Only option when they added Stock Mechs.
Hawken is a simplistic game.
MPBT 3025 had ONLY stock mechs and no customization.
And yes PGI should have done something about the Trial mechs at an early point. But this is actually a move in the right direction. The Word of Lowtax will try to make it easier on PGI and better for New Players.

There should be an option, after playing X games, to be able to hop into a standard "customized" trial mech. At least one mech like this each month, so new players have something to shoot for as a goal. If you are new and all you see are these carppy trial mechs, I could definitely see some new players going, "Yeah, Hawken's looking really good right now."
Further, how about some "Ferrari" customized mech from combatants in a tourney, like RHoD. There should be a "State Of The Art" Trial mech.
New players should SALIVATE when they enter the mechbay. That's partly what this franchise is all about.
And bring in a Banshee-5S while you're at it...

The Word of Lowtax sincerely thanks YOU for your :effort: in organizing and going through the recent Community created heavy Trial Mech Contest. We realize that a lot of work went into it. And realize that you have a lot of other work to attend to.
We hope you will hold further contest or choose another avenue to improve the New User Experience. You can be assured that we will assist you in any way possible. Perhaps it might help using a Community created mechlab to easier compare builds.

To make it easier to sort through the builds I'd suggest using www.reddit.com to lighten the workload. You could create a reddit for each Weight Class/Chassis and every contributor could make a root class Commet to his build. This way interested users could vote onto the designs while they get submitted.
This would have the advantage of pushing the best builds to the top, making it a lot easier to select from the Top 5.
Thanks for your time and :effort:.
We hope you continue on your way to improve this great (slightly unfinished and buggy) game. On which I already spent way too much time + money.

Crap Im agreeing with a goon. I need to go check my freezer and see if hell froze over! Poop it has. Well I'm with you on this one guys. Keep it comming PGI.

Hawken is simple, but that's not the point. Its still a Free to Play concept. I don't care if its not Battle Tech, the new player experience is what I was pointing out. Its not terri-bad like MWO.
This is the one point we both agree on, PGI f'ed it up for new players.
But also being snobbish with your Big Bird WoL status, doesn't mean WoL are the defacto saviors of Trials by offering up Min/Max Warrior regurgitated food for the little birdies.

Well it's either a solid Mech or crap, can't have both.
We'd submit good and solid design for all weight classes to improve the New User Experience.
We've supported this game by submitting thousands of bug reports and providing valueable feedback to PGI.
We want this gem of a game to be a success.

Well there are Warden and Crusader Goons!
We really like this game.
Some of us spent hundred on bucks on it! Because we also grew up with Battletech and love a good game. But we're quite willing to point out flaws in a games design. Like the Trial Mech builds.

Dude, are you drunk? You forgot to like your last few posts!
Also yeah, sure all that. While the dragon isnt exactly the most... teaching? of the builds, at least its far more effective than any current trial.

Well I agree that the Dragon build wouldn't have been our first choice if a better build would have been available to vote on. Also my likes appear to be lagging. Fear not!

Perhaps you don't know who I am. I am the resident General Commisar Lone Wolf Pirate, the Werewolf Trolling Pirate Terror and Plunderer of Squawks, Clanners, and Houses alike, General Samsonov Taskeen, and part-time Forum Warrior of MWO. And yes PGI has turned me into a Kranky Kommisar.
I apologize if it rubs off the wrong way, I do like MWO in some regards, it still needs quite a lot of polish though.
