0200 hours (local), 10 June 3050
Quigley Silva had only been on Hesperus for 3 months and already his mind numbing duties as a Senior Sensor Technician on the night shift had driven him past the brink of extreme boredom. The main station for the PDC is undergoing refit for some fancy new radar tech so he was stuck in the smaller auxiliary bunker located 100 miles south of the main station. There is nothing for him to do most nights but stare at the blank sensor screen, or drink, or maybe a little of both. During regular shifts this would be a problem, but on third shift there was hardly ever any action. The system traffic technician on day duty was a real workaholic and very attentive in his duties . The guy is constantly scheduling burns for incoming ships to arrive while he was there so he can handle all the traffic while he is on duty. He was adamant about handling as much traffic as possible. It’s almost like the jerk doesn’t trust him to do his job. Silva knew how to do his job, he had trained for seven whole months after all! But, if the day guy wanted to bust a gut doing all the work then Silva had no problem with that, it left him with more time for drinking and napping. When the recruiter from Sirius Interstellar Brokering Korp. had said this job would be fulfilling and exciting he obviously had not accounted for the weird obsessive nut job working day shift.
While contemplating his current predicament and how long is left on his long term contract for this tour Silva almost missed the red and amber lights on the sensor console begin to blink. The red light indicates new sensor contacts in the system and the amber light indicates incoming comm traffic. He decided to check the sensor screen first to determine what new contacts had shown up in system. He couldn’t believe the information that he was seeing at first and thought he might be sleeping so he gave himself a good pinch to wake himself up. After rubbing the sore spot on his arm he checked the sensor data again. This time he gave the console a good slap to make sure it wasn’t fouling up because the info scrolling down his screen was pretty impossible to believe. His night of easy slacking was looking like it had come to an abrupt end, and if the sensor data was correct more excitement than he had ever hoped to have was burning its way down on to his front doorstep.
He quickly reacted to alert the garrison commander that 2 jumpships had materialized at a pirate point above Hesperus II. As he was reaching for the comm link the data scrolling down the sensor screen got infinitely worse. Not only were there 2 massive jumpships parked in orbit, they had just uncoupled 6 huge dropships that were orienting to burn for the planet. He immediately tried to raise Colonel Himmel but the line was full of static. That seemed impossible as well, it was a hard line to the PDC which was buried 50 feet underground. No way it had been tampered with. The only explanation was that the team doing the refit at the PDC have screwed up somewhere and cut the line or it had been intentionally sabotaged.
Silva still couldn’t believe what he was seeing, A Star Lord and Odyssey Class Jumpship were parked above the planet and the dropships were all some kind of Overlord variant. If those ships were full this invasion force would be huge! Big enough to overwhelm the mercenaries and the planetary garrison with ease. Not good, not good at all.
Suddenly he remembered the incoming comm traffic light and stabbed the button to enable the communications. Het heard the tone that signaled it was a message, voice only, on an infinite loop.
“Attention Hesperus II and Defiance Industries Planetary Defense Command. We are here to acquire a large portion of your mech and munitions inventory. If you would be so kind as to hand over what we require we would be happy to take what we came for and leave your planet peacefully. If you resist, we will understand, but then we will then be forced to exact what we need with overwhelming and unmerciful force.
The Children of Kerensky are coming from beyond the Periphery and we have a score to settle with them. There will be no negotiations for what we require, comply or die, the choice is yours.. We have thrived on the edges of this barbaric sphere of existence your people call home, but it is time Clan WidowMaker stepped out of the shadows to face our long time foe and lay waste to all the hold dear. You have 6 hours to decide .”

24 Pilots started...only 3 remain. These pilots have battled to the final round and will be joined by an already Bloodnamed pilot to battle for the honor to earn or possibly prevent the unworthy from winning the right to be Bloodnamed.

Clan Widowmaker - Is pleased to announce that pilot WM Mangonel has earned the Jorgensson Blood Name through Trial by Combat.
24 Pilots initially entered the tourney which lasted several weeks, but in the end the superb piloting skills and in some cases luck, yes Lady Luck aided WM Mangonel who competed against some outstanding Widowmaker pilots.
Khan Cyberwolf *Hunter* and Loremaster Jerimiah *Sender* were present at the final battle and are pleased to welcome this new brother to the ranks of the Blooded warriors of the Clan. Additionally the Khan is looking forward to the next round of trials which will be announced soon.
Honorable mentions go out to Comrad and EvilDann who made it to the finals. EvilDann despite being out tonned by WM Mangonel almost pulled off a surprise upset but an early mistake by EvilDann was capitalized on by Mangonel who pulled out the win...and to the winner goes the spoils of victory!

Battletech Clan Bloodnames
Bloodname refers to the surname of each of the 800 warriors who stood with Nicholas Kerensky during the Exodus Civil War. The right to use one of these surnames has been the ambition of every Clan warrior since the system was established. Only a maximum of 25 warriors, depending on its Bloodcount, are allowed to use any Bloodname at one time. When one of the Bloodnamed warriors dies, a special Trial, called a Trial of Bloodright, is held to determine who will assume that Bloodname. A contender must prove his Bloodname lineage, then win a series of duels against other competitors. Only Bloodnamed warriors may sit on the Clan Councils or are eligible to become a Khan or ilKhan. Bloodnames are determined matrilineally, at least after the original generation. Because a warrior can only inherit from his or her female parent, he or she only has a claim to one Bloodname.
Clan Widowmaker has 40 Bloodnames and events for pilots to earn them. Clan Widowmaker only allows 3 pilots to hold any given Bloodname at a time. Our next trials for members start this Sunday! Visit our Warrior Repository to find out more!
