I always thought that if you get hit really hard your hud will turn off or even get darker (not same as shutdown) .
Or was i glitching

I'm pretty sure it's an effect of being hit by a PPC

This issue has to do with the ambient lighting and/or HDR or something. There's certain weirdness associated with it. The suggestion is to "turn off" the cockpit lighting IIRC.
