was currently in production in 3048
and undergoing tests due to its previous form the "daboku" having a jack in the box cockpit
and being a virtual death sentence to my factions pilots while in the heat of battle back in 3038
and This big boy was not fielded till 3050 which is this year
and the devs could be saving it for a suprise
as the next assault mech
and ooh boy the price of it looks like it will be
TT price
--------------
18,399,600 C-bills
Mwo possible price since they add a few more 100,000 cbills
---------------
18,400,000 - 18,800,000

possible variants
-------------
MAL-C (C3 made in 3050 same hard points as the MAL-1R but 6 laser with a bap and ecm unit capability)
MAL-1R (could have 4 laser hardpoints ,4 missile,4 ballistic)
MAL-3R (6 ballistic,6 mssile, 1 laser... prolly a new version of the splat cat)

-----------

One variant.

Two if you count the Daboku.

Maybe three if you count the totally identical C version, except it has one less ton of AC/2 ammo and one more ton of C3.

And that is really pushing it.

Although quad torso ballistic hardpoints would be godly. Quad UAC/5s (with the tonnage to support it).

It's extremely unlikely.

The current front runners are the Banshee and Zeus. Second place is a tie with the Cyclops and Charger.

A distant third is the Hatamoto-Chi.

Variants are the problem. In the last ask the devs they said they stay away from mechs that dont have enough good variants for them to make a decent selection of 3 mechs.

Every variant after the Charger's stock model are amazing. Take a look. A couple of them are like the Highlander but better.

Actually, MWO's hardpoint system would redeem the Charger a lot; the stock would get 5 energy hardpoints, for instance. Not too shabby.

Notice how the hardpoints between variants would not be different enough?

Thats what they want to avoid.

Not saying i wouldnt want a mauler, i just dont think we are going to see it.

They took some leeway with various mechs' hardpoints in-game already, such as the Jagermech S and DD variants. I'd imagine they'd do the same to the Mauler.

Shame. I wanted my Flashman. Closest thing Inner Sphere had to Clan Nova at that date.

Battlemaster, but I wouldn't mind a Mauler. Neutral on the Banshee and meh on the Zeus. Personal preferences of course. ;)

Well, the 6 Ballistics might satiate the Dakka fans for 6 * AC2s. 4 * uAC/5s would also be...painful.

As for the Charger, you'd have to spend a load of money on it and then instantly swap out the engine for something usable to fit something other than SLs. Even with Endo-Steel & Ferro-Fibrous you're still looking at 4-5 MLs and a couple of extra heat sinks...and that's assuming PGI allows assaults to use 400 rated engines, something that I think they've avoided so far...

And, oh, dear god, I just had the vision of PGI restricting 400 rated Engines to MC-only. That'd be horrible.

Fair enough...although, if that is the only source for it, that means the fear I had is currently true. The only way to get a 400 series engine, and worse, a mech that can mount it, is MC. Does that qualify as P2W?

Huh, that actually looks pretty cool. Uh OP based on those possible hardpoints I doubt they will put the Mauler in for a while.

Based on what? There was a poll a while back for "What Assault Mech do you want to see next, and which do you think will be next?" The Banshee didn't come anywhere near the front of either poll. The King Crab was a fairly clear leader on the "wanted" poll, but not very expected at all. IIRC the Zeus and Charger were the top "expected" mechs. I wish I could find a link, but the search function is having a pissy fit atm.

The Banshee would be a terrible addition at this point anyway, it's a five-ton lighter Atlas with no arm weapons. Big whoop, pilot an Atlas. There's more differentiation than that they can put in right now.

And as for the Hatamoto-Chi....I will personally not regret one second if we never see that mech in game. It simply does not fit with the current artstyle in the slightest.

I see your Mauler and raise you an Annihilator.
Because why should the Dragoon's have all the fun?
