Awesomes are great, they just require a very hefty investment before they become usable. And not many are willing to heavily invest on the basis of what they see stock.

First, fork out 6m+ for the best engine you can cram in
Second, buy two more awesome chassis so you have access to the elite tree
Third, update all your talent tree to elite, this is very important for heat management and speed.

Finally, launch match & profit.

The 9M isnt a terrible mech. However the role the Awesome is used for in MWO is the complete opposite of the role its supposed to have in Battletech.

Kindve dumb seeing Awesomes as fast-moving SRM facehuggers.

Its all about how you pilot. With the right pilot every mech can be super nasty you just have to play to the advandages of each variant and mech and avoid placing them in situations where thier disadvantages cause them problems.

The issue I have with this mech isn't overheating, speed, or it being a bad build. Its just that I can do way more damage on average with my AWS 8T, or my Catapults, or my Atlases, than I can with my AWS 9M.
Its as if the current map set (and a lack of a zoom module) doesn't work well for line of sight Snipers support, when compared to LRM support mechs.

I love the 9M. But I don't run PPCs. I run lasers and missiles. It's a monster, especially compared to the Pretty Baby. Try expanding your builds beyond one type of weapon, especially if you're focused on PPCs. I've found in general that PPCs don't really cut it as well as lasers for most Energy builds, at least for my playstyle.

I agree, its just that all my other mechs use lasers, so I'm trying to play the 9M as it was original designed. It works, its just not as effective as other mechs.

Garth,
Please go and slap whoever is responsible for the Awesome until they agree to give it much better default heat dissipation characteristics.

Thank you.

They DO.
But not cause the reason most people imagine.
It's just that, when you're firing at something faar far away(in a distant galaxy etc.) , ordinary you're weapons adjust, so they hit that exact spot in the distance your aim is at.
The problem - with PPCs you NEED to lead the target, thus you're aiming in the enviorment, which is further that your actual target is, thus the two PPC shots have a distance between them, resulting hitting different body parts at more than 400m range.
That's cause if you wanna hit relatively the same body part, the best thing you can do with your 9M would be - in a 2 PPC scenario - to put the one PPC in your RIGHT hand, and the other in your RIGHT torso, so both of them don't have that much distance between their firing location.
Two PPCs on your RIGHT side of your mechs are far more accurate than, let we say, a PPC in your LEFT hand and a PPC in your right hand(in that scenario, trying to hit something more than 700m away would often result only one of the PPCs hit).
It's not something that could or would or must be fixed - it just requires some practice to make it work right.
And no.
I do not agree with you about the 9M - I thought that way before I finally got the way it's ment to be played for me.
And I got screenshots that prove you wrong if you're persistant.
I can show you if you wanna - they're on my "average" games - they are not from my "best" games and they're from yesterday :)
EDIT: speaking of which - I would probably start a topic for that(average game screenshots) a bit later.

I have to say, I've never encountered this problem while using PPCs. Granted, I don't use PPC's particularly often, but that's for a personal preference; I prefer to run cooler mechs that don't generate a ton of heat, and PPC's aren't exactly the most heat efficient weapons around.

For months I ran an atlas with dual ERPPC, never once had a convergence problem, even though they were in different arms.

Your right on the money, they aren't feared. Why? cause they suck. K2s are harder to take down.

How exactly is a K2 tougher to kill? If you can't put each and every shot of a PPC or gauss into the C2 of any catapult you need serious gunnery practice. I know Awesomes are not particularly hard to kill, but neither are catapults. They just have better hardpoint setups.

I run almost exclusively in the 8Q. 4 Lg Lasers in the torsos, one ERPPC in the right arm, and an AMS.
The ERPPC is great for extremely long range. Running the Lg Lasers in chain you can fire constantly.
I find it to be a very good build. The Awesome, for its size, is quite maneuverable and has great torso range.
And it looks awesome......(get it)

You must not own any other Awesomes, or Dragons, or spiders, or lights without ECM then.

The 9M isn't worth bringing to a tourney but it wrecks face in the pug matches.

If the awesome needs any fixes, its a smaller torso.

It is way too fat, Awesome have wide torsos, but not so tall and fat as the MWO AWS

Correction. You ARE useing a bad build and/or ARE a bad pilot. The 9M is one of the best mechs when piloted properly. The thing is so powerful I often avoid using it as it is too easy. Oh, I know you are thinking im just ******** gloating but I assure you I am not. Gladly will prove it if you wanna add me and watch me carry the team.

I use 2 ML, 2 LL, 2 4 SRMs, 1 6 SRM. And the XL 385. At 85 KPH this thing is a BEAST. It tears everything apart, no problem.

The other awesomes are longer ranged mechs because they are big and slow, but not big enough (armor wise). But this mech is the fastest assault and when used properly outshines the vast majority of atlas piloting mech warriors even in single combat or atlas + medium.
