Heh, fair enough on the cooler. That's more Vulpesveritas' area, but really it depends on your budget.

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 is a good cooler on the lower end of the spectrum: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835103065

That should get you to 4+ without a problem, probably 4.2 without a problem if you don't have a boiling hot room like I do.

If you wanted to do more serious OCing, then the Corsair one-piece liquid coolers are the way to go for all sorts of reasons. Those start with the H50: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835181010 (not the $300 bank-breakers liquid coolers used to be as you can see)

Our website's listed in the Community Portal, but it's here: http://www.kitsunesys.com/

I will *try* to have a writeup on de-lidding the 3570k by Tuesday, but otherwise others have already done some good stuff on it. The video I like most is this:

hmm, i think i want something a little bit better then the cool master, i remember pc mag had a cpu cooler shoot-off for lga2011and it wasn't very good, although they pretended like it didnt have the lowest ambient temps and said it outperformed coolers that actually did better then it, neither was the intel liquid cooler (XD it sucked) and if i wanted to go water cooling, i would probably go with a custom loop so everything got water cooling

anything good in the 40-50$ range?

At that price range, the H50/55 is probably as good as it gets. You're not going for an expensive water cooling system, because we're having this conversation :), and I don't really think you care what kind of cooler it is as long as it works and isn't a hassle. Whether it's water or air, you're still going to install and use it the same way.

It fits onto any 120mm fan port. So it just takes the place of a case fan. I assume you have a top and/or rear 120mm spot. I have my H100 top mounted, but rear-mounting is common, too.

It's actually nice not having a giant cooler weighing down the board and just taking up gobs of space around the slot.

hmmm, would it work in the bottom of the case??? i have a place for a 2nd fan on the bottom of the case, but right now theres nothing there, how long is the tubing?

I'm afraid it's not nearly long enough to circumvent a GPU, so any graphics card in that machine would end this idea quickly. The tubing is only maybe 30cm/12in long. You'd have to replace an existing fan, probably the rear (I mean, you can still use the fan; you just now have a radiator on top of it).

http://www.amazon.co...rds=Corsair+H55

That's where I'd get it. I'd read some further reviews just to be sure it really is the best thing in that price bracket, but historically these little water coolers have been REALLY hard to beat for performance/price

To be honest, I don't know the exact breakdown of differences between the H50/60/80/55/60i/80i (Yes, there really are that many single-fan versions). I'd look real quick, but my internet isn't cooperating where I'm visiting :D

Actually, looking at reviews, HardOCP has another interesting option

http://www.amazon.co...ag=hardfocom-20

This little guy gives slightly better performance for a slightly lower price. Looks like I might have to change the recommendation (there are better coolers than any of these, but not many great standouts at $50)

ah, so the h60-h100 are made by a different company and are just all around better

i was thinking about a noctua, but thats a little to expensive for just getting the job done :/ im not a bench marker after all , giant stompy robots are way cooler :D

Made specifically for Micro ATX

sounds like its probably pretty compact

As I said, the $50 mark has few standouts, so while I'd normally look at bigger coolers, that one's size is probably where it gets some of its price from, and it competes with the redesigned H60 for performance. As you say, you just want a stock cooler replacement

Well you're not risking anything by trying. If you get too hot the CPU will throttle down to cool itself

what are the safe temps for ivy bride any way??? i don't even know what to aim for with these things

Well I'm an enthusiast who likes to push past practicality. I'm using an H100 ( got it refurb cheap, too!) in a push/pull. If you got a cooler for $40-$50, you could probably get 4.2-4.5. With something more expensive, you might gain like 300mhz or something. It's not a practical difference. It's more for epeen or just tinkering (I like to tinker. Computers, guns, little electrical projects, even got a rockoon planned later in the year. It's how I am. If you just want practical gaming performance, an arctic cooling freezer i30 or that True Spirit 120M would do fine

I'm just glad I have the interwebz back so I can look stuff up :D

:D

ok, so i might be joking about the fans, but thats a pretty good looking cpu heatsink for 59.99, even if its only passive

Oh, and Ivy Bridge is good into the high 80s. I mean, it's good into the 90s, but you want some headroom.

Also, 250CFM.... I don't know what's more insane, that or the 65+ DBA noise levels :D
