How much longer must we suffer this crappy ELO system? 2 Hero mechs? 4 Dashboard bobbles? If I had a change that failed this miserably, it would have already been rolled back.

Are you suggesting you lost the match because the matchmaker pitted you against people with more bobble-heads?

I just don't get it: How can you go based on a pilot score when the abilities of most pilots fluctuate based on the chassis and load-out. How many Raven 3L pilots are capable out side of that class? I guarantee if you put them into any other chassis they would be matched based on their ELO and would summarily be out piloted.

You are wrong.
There are 4 Elo rankings per player, one for each weight class.
Btw: it is freaking Elo, not ELO. That's a name!

Before ELO 80% of the games I played in were 8-0 or 0-8 total stompings. Post elo it seems evened out. They should weight mech class more heavily in games, but the system is creating appreciably better matchups than it was before.

Where do you see 2 disconnects?

Sorry I meant 4 total.

So there's 1 disconnect listed, that usually means it disconnected after loading into the map.

Then there's 3 that didn't even list into the map, usually that means either they crashed while loading the map, or more likely when you see 3 ppl crashing it could mean they removed Alpine to not have to play that map (its considered a suspendable/bannable offense)

Really want to split hairs? Elo is a name also.

Acronyms use capital letters. Unless you always spell your name in all caps.

Statement of Hero Mechs and Bobbleheads was a dig at the fact that crap doesn't get fixed until it affects their income.... still waiting on the DX11 banner for my mech that will help fund the shift off of 10 year old driver tech... that is right Dx9 came out in 2002.

Are we playing the same game?

Because to me it seems like it's the exact other way around. 95% of the games I am in end in a stomp, for one side or the other. The only thing that seems somewhat balanced is that I get stomped about as often as I get to do the stomping...

Only because we have gotten lazy: if it is an acronym it should be "E.L.O." unless that Acronym has become the name of the object such as Radar, Laser, or Scuba. (Omg, another thread reduced to grammar-****-ism! This is your fault Ewigan!!!!)

I'm not convinced that Elo system works for a team game at all. It was created for chess, where you only have 1vs1 games, and even there there are some issues with it.

Theres another thread(or two, or hundred) about this. And somewhere someone put up a nice video about ELO, Elo, or E.L.O. being used in League of Legends.

Technically, it's elo, not Elo. Elo is a proper name. elo is a an adjective. ("the Elo rating" versus "my elo rating")

But if you want to drive technicalities home you'd still be wrong, because Elo himself only created the system to be used with chess.

FIDE Performance Rating is a more accurate term for the system that MWO uses.

So, before blowing a gasket on a technicality, please remember that you are not the end-all-be-all of knowledge.

I've been getting the same experience as the other guy, 100% pug. Pre-ELO the matches were usually lopsided, depending on ECM and 4man premades. Post-ELO, it's usually 1, 2 or at most 3 damaged Mechs remaining on the winning side. Maybe 1 out of 8 games is 8-0.

Sorry. It's a nerd game, ruled by nerds. The cool kids all play League of Legends (at least my teenage childrens' friends do).

Don't forget streaks, too. Their torso-seeking, almost always hit, light-wrecking power should add another 100 to the BV of any mech at least.

If there is /anything/ that reliably gets me in a Jenner, it is streaks. They're a broken scourge.

As for ELO--yeah, it is totally broken. It seems to be counting fresh noobs at 1300 base ELO as valuable as veterans who've played 100+ drops @ 1300. Asinine.

Also, people who contest that ELO is not taking super high ELO players and balancing them out with super low ELO players obviously haven't had it done to them repeatedly. It does happen.

And this as well. No idea what my score is, other than I tend to pick up new mechs in sets of three, suffer mightily while I learn the quirks, the loadouts that work for me, up-level them all, and am back to familiar names by the time I finish. Then I'll take the giant stack of c-bills from grinding out 180K XP or so, buy three... Cataphracts? grind my score back down below noob, and then back up again.

I suppose I could wait until I see all trial builds and pull out the K2 if I'm feeling uncharitable...

I'm really hoping that something is done to prevent people who delete maps from playing at all. In fact, I'd rather see something check for all the map files and if one is missing or altered it kills the account.

I hate RCN but I still play it hoping that I eventually figure out what I'm doing wrong. RCN is a metaphor for life, apparently...

I have noticed a correlation that the more vehement a correction is, the less likely that the correction is indeed correct.

It is coming very soon. Maybe even next week.
