Take almost everything you think you know about BT rules... and throw them out the window.

That train left the station LONG ago.

Not for lack of trying, but a lot of TT just didn't translate well into a 3d environment happening in real time.

I was looking at my Raven 3L, and it seems it can carry a whopping 295XL engine.

If I follow old Battletech rules, dividing rating by Mech tonnage, that's a speed of 8/12, rounding down! Seems impressive, but before I start envisioning speed capping stuff in conquest mode, what Mechs out there can match or top that?

Current fastest mech is the Jenner at 152.7kph with a 300XL.

But yes, Tabletop is pretty much out the door. The Atlas is the most common sight in the inner Sphere, the Catapult is a front line brawler, and there's nary a medium mech to be seen.

Not sure on the fastest, but for the best speed but with decent firepower and armour balance, I believe the cicada takes the prize (X-5 in particular)

AFAIK

Speed is hard capped at 150 kph despite the tach reading higher (my cda-3m shows 151.2)

150 kph mechs:

Raven (XL295)
Cicada (XL340)
Jenner (XL 300)
Spider (XL 255)

(there might be others as well)

CN9-D has the potential to be very fast (130+) hunchies and dragons can get to around 100 kph easy as well, just kinda depends on what you want to do.

Perhaps Ohmwrecker's work will help:

http://mwomercs.com/...s-excel-inside/

(All speeds listed are without speed tweak. Speed tweak increases top speed by 10%)

I know this wasn't your intention, but other than the sad state of mediums currently, that just made me feel a whole lot better about the game for a minute.

This is mistaken -- Commandos only go to 210 Engines.

That's correct. I have 136.1 kph as their maximum possible pre-tweak speed. They can only hit 149.7 with tweak, so they're barely short of the cap.

This is according to Smurfy's mech lab.

Fastest mechs without the speed cap would be the Spider and Flea, followed by Cicada, then Jenner and Commando and lastly Raven.

As far as I know the order of fastest to slowest (assuming speed tweak and max engine) is Jenner (152.7) > Spider/Cicada (151.5) > Raven-3L (150.2) > Commando (149.7) > Centurion-9D/Trebuchet-3C > Raven-2X/4X (124.7)

I'm basing this off of Smurfy's mechlab stats

there are mechs faster than Raven 2X/4X

Centurion 9D and Trebuchet 3C can do 139 kph.

I was talking about the mechs with speed cap excluded.

I'd think that with or without the cap the results would be the same, but it does make sense that the Spider/Flea would be faster

They said it was going to be 140kph, but then boosted the speed tweak nad players got above that.

@SPencil: Unless the system is crap, the speeds should make Jenner a slower mech. And Raven even slower. Because, frankly, the only thing there is to Flea or Spider is the ridiculous speed they can achieve compared to hard hitting Jenner/Commando and elusive Raven.

The game is not speed capped at 150kph. I've run multiple games with 295XL Raven teammates in my 300XL Jenner - over flat terrain running in straight lines my Jenner catches up or pulls away slowly, meter by meter.

Whoever decided there was a 'cap' at 150 is very mistaken.

It isn't that there is a hard cap that stops you from moving over 150, it's that they use a formula based on stock engine size to determine what the max engine you can put in a mech is, and then they don't let you put any engine that lets you go over 150kph (but there is some rounding involved so the Jenner comes out just over 150.) The Cicada 3M should be able to mount a much larger engine from its stock 320 (even the hunchback can mount an engine 30% larger at max, a 260 vs. a 200 stock) but the Cicada tops out at a rating 340 engine, only 20 points higher than the stock engine. This is because netcode doesn't support extremely fast mechs.

Strongly disagree. Profile is a HUGE consideration. Essentially, size is a force multiplier on top of speed and armor for purposes of durability. This can be further tweaked by messing with turn/acceleration/deceleration rates.

I'm not arguing against a generally inverse relationship between size and speed, but speed isn't the only advantage of a smaller 'Mech like you claim.

Yeah, there are minor things, but generally, if you had to decide between a Jenner and a Spider, which one would you pick if you wanted to have a better chance of success? One is small, fast and deadly. One is bigger, has less weapons, is only as fast and jumps a bit higher.

Wouldn't it be more fair if they allowed for the canon relation of speed those mechs have, making Spider at least a lot faster?
