I'm trying to master Dragons, because they remind me of clan Summoner (Thor).

By now I have these variants:

DRG-1N
DRG-5N

But I want my third dragon DRG-1C to be a dedicated light and medium mech hunter and I could use tips on building one. The planned loadout has gone through many iterations, but currently I am looking at these two:

1xMG, 2x ERLL, 2x MPL, SSRM2
1xMG, 2xLPL, SSRM2
1xAC2, 2x ML, 2x MPL, SSRM2

If anyone has any tips or ideas or a better variant feel free to share it with us.

Also I never used Large pulse lasers, so the question is: are they good versus light mechs?

LPLs can be good versus lights, if you can keep them on-target (easier with the LPL than the LL, of course) long enough to deal sufficient damage

LBX, srms, med lasers. or pulses. But you need to go FAST. You need to get behind them and follow them as the run to really be able to kill them.

Take the LPLas one and ditch the MG, add another heat sink, take off some armour off the legs and add two small lasers as well and you have a good light hunter. As long as you are good at aiming that is.

Something like this should do the job fine: DRG-1C.
I recommend the following fire groups:
  • group 1 = 2xMlasers
  • group 2 = LB 10 X-AC
  • group 3 = 2xMlasers & 2xMplasers
  • group 4 = Streaks
The strategy is pretty self explanatory. Chase them down and blast away. Use fire group 3, only, when close and squared up with the enemy. This will ensure you don't overheat.

As a guy that plays a light mech, I'll tell you what I don't like to see: LBX-10 and SRM6s. Both do decent damage, and the spread means I'm more likely to take a hit. They also both pack a punch if someone gets up close and personal and unloads it into your face. I also don't like AC/20s - 20 points of damage to just about any part will strip all the armor off, assuming it doesn't blow the whole limb.

Lasers really depend on the skill of the firer. If you can't keep your beam on target, you are doing minimum damage for a lot of heat. I've seen plenty of people using the "sweep 4 large lasers" method, and while it can hurt, it tends to spread the damage out over a large area. That being said, I've taken some really solid hits from lasers too.

Streaks are iffy, because a lot of lights you face will probably have ECM, which will negate it. An SRM6 isn't ECM dependent, so it's useful against all lights.

But really - speed is key. Put the biggest engine you can in, because if that light can run away from you, you can't kill him.

LBX10 is worthless on lights (it's worthless for everything unless you bring 2 or more), SRMS and lasers with host state rewind, a tetra-medium laser will do it. Streaks? No use, 90% of lights out there are ECM ones, so it's worthless tonnage.

This is my usual build DRG-1C and thats the pretty default build for 1Cs totally multirole. Lights think you are an easy prey because you're not that fast, but they won't core you so fast unless in numbers and even there probably your gauss will drive away the attention while you work them out with the lasers and the srm.

You want more speed take away the SRM launcher and go like this DRG-1C..
