Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to use mg's cause I like the sound but here is my question:
In my Jager DD I roll with 3 UAC/5's and 1ML. The 3 ac's do an amazing job of stripping armor. Would it be worth replacing the ML and finding another ton to add 2 mg's?
My vision is that the ac's tear off the armor and the mg's get the crits. But is this just fantasy?
Maybe some of you guys that work the actual numbers can shed some science on it.

Assuming your not a troll...
In theory yes, by tabletop rules they should be just as effective at dealing damage as your AC2's...
However PGI has failed utterly at coming up with any good way to implement them... So their currently about worthless. Your much better off adding another ml or tag than MG's.

Keep in mind that crits being applied doesn't kill your enemy faster, they don't deal extra damage to internal structure, only items. (and not engines either)
So a pair of MGs can be helpful but the time and tonnage spent on trying to crit items is typically better spent simply killing your opponent.

Check out this crazy build that involves MG's. Surprisingly effective.

Nice video but I am skeptical about how much the MGs are actually contributing.

Table top makes them as effective by assuming that you have a ten second firing window. At the current thing even without criticals, in ten seconds you'll have fired 100 bullets, and dealt 4 damage. This means double the table top value of 2...assuming that's what it is. Not sure off hand. Yep. Just checked the rule book. MGs do 2 damage per turn, which is per 10 second window. We have double that effectiveness.
With 3 in MWO in a ten second window... you'll have done 12 damage in ten seconds with no critical bonuses. With the full triple bonuses on every shot... 36 damage. Which never happens, but yes. That's to show there is potential.
With 6, full bonuses on every shot, etc. 72 damage.
Keep in mind the engine health is 3. However engine critical damage is not implemented, otherwise machine guns would be the most powerful gun in the game.
