It's not bait and switch, it's "Wag the dog"

Bryan: "Garth, how's that elephant I left in the HTH forum last week?"
Garth: "It's dying"
Bryan: "Paul, I told you to keep an eye on that elephant"
Paul: "I told you I gave it some peanuts last Friday, I didn't think you meant for me to own the damn thing"
Bryan: "Oh yeah... man, they're gonna be mad I haven't addressed it in over a week, or closed it for that matter"
Paul: "Hey, when they were working on HSR, the devs figured out how to REALLY go back in time, we could do that"
Bryan: "Intriguing, but you know those guys and their stats, some of them have them somehow burned into the space/time continuum, someone would notice"
Garth: "We could..."
Bryan: "QUIET YOU! I've got it, if we announce that somehow you'll have to pay for a feature of CW, they'll loose their minds and forget all about 3PV"
Garth: "That's insane, that thread will grow 10 pages an hour, I won't be a part of this madness..."
Russ: "It's perfect, Bryan TO THE COWSKULL MOBILE, we have an interview to give"

Seriously, PGI. Your playerbase is a battered housewife, and here you are, belt in hand, ready to go another round.

If you aren't careful, she is going to leave you for someone better.

Damn that man and his silver tongued, honey laced words promising everything I've ever dreamed of. He's already taken like five hundred bucks from me. >_<
(not an exaggeration)

At least PGI has a history of redoing pay schemes that the forum community has told them is ********. Granted, it's kinda bad that we even have to smack them around in the first place but at least it gets results.

PGI has a history of been bipolar with regard to MWO. Your guess is as good as mine or anyone else's for that matter.

God himself would not know what they plan or decide to come up with.

They also have a history of telling us forum dwellers we're too small a fraction of "core players" to listen to.

Bryan, please answer this honestly. I have seen 2 polls on this topic and they have been OVERWHELMINGLY against 3rd person. Why are you guys so stuck on this when clearly the players (by majority) don't want it?

View PostBryan Ekman, on 21 March 2013 - 04:39 PM, said:

Honest answer.

The analysis on those who voted, showed that the majority of votes came from a very narrow demographic of our player base. And while they represent some of core players, they did not necessarily represent the opinion of the general user base. The majority of our players never visit, post, or read the forum content, so the poll could be considered weighted in favour of a specific demographic.

Since the majority of players who have an issue with 3rd person come generally from the core players, we elected to address this issue via this forum post to collect all of the concerns and ideas that this group faces or has with 3rd person.

Except it is supposed to be free to play.

Team Fortress 2 and League of Legends are both examples of highly successful F2P games that offer cosmetics for money, and ALL of the gameplay to EVERYONE. The truth is PGI is slowly but surely selling out the founders.

This isn't TF2 or LoL. And MWO will continue to be F2P. You click launch, shoot mechs, repeat. You won't have to pay to do that.

We really need more information about the differences of being in a Merc Corp instead of just Faction warfare. I'd expect there is content you'd get in being in a Merc Corps, which would not be the same as now with premium time since that's just more CBills and EXP and not a question of differing content.

Why should F2P get the same content as P2P members? There has to be some incentive, otherwise whats the point? No MMO out there with a subscription incentive alongside its F2P allows both to have the same content.

Besides, the content that Mercs will get won't be vastly different than Faction or Lone Wolves.

View PostChemie, on 29 March 2013 - 02:28 PM, said:

I disagree. Currently you can optionally add premium to get more. What they propose is to REQUIRE premium to even play CW. Dumb.

Can you quote where they said you have to pay to click the launch button? Apparently I didn't see it, or you are making this up.

CW won't require premium time, you can still participate in Faction control, instead of taking planets for your Merc Corps, your faction will get influence instead.

Before you all go on a rant, look at what other MMOs do for F2P and P2P:

www.everquest.com
www.everquest2.com
tera.enmasse.com
www.ddo.com
sto.perfectworld.com
www.ageofconan.com
www.swtor.com
www.dcuniverseonline.com

Just to name a few that have content that you pay for, but can still play for free.

Holiday weekend. Anybody in the office is likely to be a lowly code monkey. All the bigwigs are currently partying in Vegas (at least Bryan, the creative director, the guy likely responsible for this is) or otherwise off.

If i have to pay any kind of subscription, whether that's in the guise of having to buy premium time, or having to pay some other up-keep to play the game (i.e with a merc corp, or to participate in CW) then i'd rather go back to an actual subscription based MMO and leave this game be.

You guys really need to stop dropping these badly worded bombs on us and then complaining that we make a huge fuss based on misinformation, or more often, no information. If you don't want that sort of reaction, stop doing bad interviews or forum posts which hint at stuff and take the time to explain it. Don't make out like our lack of informed opinion on these matters is our fault.

Bull. It's a forum. Spend a few minutes after making huge stupid announcements to deal with the fallout.

Like I said. Terrible community relations.
