Do you have a cell phone? Cable Television? You clearly have internet, but you pay for that monthly and obviously cannot be using that 24/7. It's how subscriptions WORK. This is the same exact thing.

The point was that we were promised a F2P game. I PAID MY MONEY on the basis of this being a FREE to PLAY game.

Now that is changing? **** that. **** everything about that.

I foresee lots of Merc corps folding into Houses so they can stay together and keep playing for free, if they go through with the plan to charge a premium account for Merc corp access. There will be some sort of House bonuses for house players, like cheaper House Mechs.

Still looking forward to a official reply and letting them soak in our commentary before a final solution is agreed-on, though.

I forsee PGI making even house players pay with a premium sub to participate in CW when they realize that they don't have enough players paying as merc corps.

I highly doubt that there's enough simple minded saps, who will actually agree with the pay2play2gether model, to provide enough premium income for PGI to continue developing.
Most of the community has probably read what OP quoted and just being on the forum and reading it means they're intelligent enough to think for themselves.

With that, they're intelligent enough to know that the pay2play2gether model is a blatant attempt at milking money and a slap in the face to anyone who already paid money for this game.
This game will become barren, with a few hundred players actually paying for premium to be in houses and merc corps.
Imagine having several merc corps with a few dozen players each, as the only community that uses CW. No competition, always seeing the same players and the ever certain danger of 1 merc corp/house having monopoly, which will again result in further decrease of competition.

But you'll still see House Unit's in the Merc CW because factions are dev controlled, they are stale battles that whilst change from planet to planet through the timeline, the player has no impact whatsoever on the universe. Whereas in the Merc CW you can control a planet for prestige, you can change the dynamics of the universe in the back-end of this galaxy by taking a planet...

Since the Houses (Devs) are controlling the contracts issued out to the MC's to bid on the only thing MC's are getting is a "We own this planet" sign. Which makes me as an opposing MC want to bid on the contract for the House who says "We want it back" Essentially the only thing that is being hinted at is that the MC wins column is going to have more dazzle than a House Faction has, because the House wants credit for the destruction of the enemy. Remember that a MC can bid on any contract posted by any house. Faction corps. are limited to only House contracts.

Genius!

A company actively trying to sabotage their own game couldn't come up with this stuff. PGI/IGP has some seriously talented people working for them.

People know this, what they are complaining about is PGI turning around and saying

'Hey you know that feature we've been hyping for months? The lynchpin and cornerstone of our long term plans for this game? The only persistent element to this universe, that you have all been waiting a long time to be able to influence?
Well **** YOU, if you want it you'll empty your wallet *****.'

yep I would gladly pay a monthly fee to play a Battletech TRUE game

I would like to hear from some of the Merc Corp leaders about whether this is a viable program. As in are you going to pay? Bombshells like these is why I haven't joined a group yet.

What you are paying for (the 1 time fee) as an MC is to bid on a contract posted by ANY House in the IS. A House group only fights for the House.

I love the bit where the guy talking is all like

"THOSE CLANNERS ARE GREAT, THEY RECRUIT PLAYERS FOR US GENERATE CONTENT AND HELP NEW PLAYERS OUT AND IN GENERAL INCREASE OUR REVENUE BY THEIR ACTIONS."

Then literally the next words out of his mouth

"NOW I'M GOING TO RAM MY MONEY COLLECTION RODS UP THEIR REAR ENDS AND TAKE THEM FOR ALL THEIR WORTH"

I think PGI get the general idea by now people ...
  • Charge for clan setup - Good ideal.
  • Prem req for clan membership - Insane idea.

Yeah details are sketchy, but this isn't the way to go.

You want to sell subs or premium time go with the PS2 route. Don't want 1 man corps simply make it so you require 5+ to be an "official clan" or whatever.

I'm with holding rage until details are finalized... and yeah usually i'm not on the hating bandwagon, but this...

Absolutely.

Especially the part about this is PGI's fault.

Blatant business practice is blatant. They turn off a ton of players, but the ones dumb enough to go along with it get leeched and hard. Normally I try to side with PGI, but this time I just can't. I'm not going to pay you leeches to play with my friends.

That doesn't help the hundreds of merc corp players that will be required to pay fees to keep their **** running, and have active premium accounts. Which is a lot like Pay to play in that it exactly IS Pay to play. Something that MWO was promised NOT to be.
