Honest question here: what has PGI done right with this game, in your opinion?

No snarky posts saying "nothing" or similar, I am genuinely interested in what the forum community thinks about this topic, considering we all know that PGI has done a lot of things wrong.

I'll start with this:

PGI has made the difference between ballistics and lasers simple, elegant, and meaningful. Hitscan DoT is a great way to do laser damage, and neatly differentiates it from ballistics/PPCs that do burst point damage with travel time.

Eh, true enough I guess, but that is simply the result of doing it, not necessarily the result of good design decisions.

Yes, I agree (mostly) here. I think the mechs look great, if a bit too similar to each other.

PGI should watch this and see what is not mentioned.

I agree, bringing back MW, the art, and the details of said art in game.

Sound except for that ridiculous IMMA CHARGING MAH LAZOR sound they put in recently.

The game they create is fun. Not always (few games are always fun to play), but fun enough that it's currently the only game I'm putting more than a few minutes into.

It may not have a huge amount of content, so I'm not sure how long I'll be an avid player, but what they have done, they have done reasonably well. Well enough for me to have a heck of a lot of fun.

The dual reticule is fun, I suppose it's now the option to have dual reticules.

Having fun for 9 months or so. And while balance issues have changed and were a pain in the arse at the time, it's amusing to look back at what was the go to weapon at the time. And I guess it shows they are trying to get on top of it.

Art Direction

The Idea behind Community Warfare (Depending on what the merc situation will be)

The audio has also been pretty solid since CB. Just be nice to have some menu audio and sfx as well as some music on the go. Would just give it a bit more of a finished feel. But then it's perhaps coming with U.I 2.0

Edit: just one more.

Thinking about it, the best part is getting rid of the bigger is better mentality. A light is just as viable as an assault. Which is good. And while there are still some ways to go to make all weight classes different but viable it's still pretty good.

Art, sound, dual reticules, difference between mech variants (and the mechs themselves), made light mechs viable (overly, IMO, but still better than the tissue paper they were in previous games), lasers, and (lately) maps.

There's tons of potential that's slowly being built up.

Doing oldschool design. Makes things dynamic and not so linear. However, also has downsides.

What have they done right? A whole heck of a lot if you only counted that they brought Mechwarrior back.

As a artist I am not all that impressed with the art as time progresses

MWO is worlds better than any game they have made previously. Although their transformer games had great models and animations, this part of their studio is very solid. I was really nervous about the netcode and balancing though after playing duke nukem forever (they did the multiplayer part). The netcode is now working pretty damn good now too. I think balance will come next.

Keep plugging away PGI and don't let the negativity of the forums stop you from delivering us more stompy robots.

Made an entertaining simulated simulation of a mech shoot-em-up.
They brought back the mechlab.
Dual reticles for arms and torsos.
When they allow the colors, the colors look great.
The mechs are lovely (except the commando lolz)
Many of the sounds rock out loud.
They nerfed many things that needed to be nerfed and buffed some that needed it as well.
They recapitulated multiple times when we loudly protested.
Got more play out of this than Skyrim, Amalur and GW2 combined.

It's a MechWarrior game and it's fun. There were problems, there are problems. I've not yet given up on this game. Not by a longshot.
