Hey Ashley and welcome to the game. As a new player myself, I would recommend picking 3-4 groups recruiting in the Davion forum and read their members endorsements, check their websites etc and get a feel for how structured / casual they are. Then jump into the House Davion TS server and do some drops with a couple of them. That way everyone can check each other out and make sure there is a good fit.
I joined C4 as very casual with no strict requirements apart from having fun.
Just my 0.02p worth

As trak has said, and to expand on it just a little.
If your only after a casual group, then definitely look around at the TS servers being listed by the various groups/units right now.
Spend a few days dropping with as many as you can to see who fits in with your preferred playstyle (cheesewarrior, ECM ho, LRM/PPC Boater etc)
Some like ours are a bit more rigid and regimental in how we are organised and play etc, others just want to have fun.
Whatever you choose, GL, GH, HF.
<S>
Chewie
ps, thats Good Luck, Good Hunting, Have Fun in case you wondered.

LOL, you know Chewie, I may just have a go at creating the ECM Ho's regiment myself. Witty recruitment slogan....
"You'll never be caught in a compromising position in the ECM Ho's" ???

Thanks for the tips guys...I am not going to jump into a team especially if they are hardcore players. Right now just working on getting my feet wet and getting assists to get some cash to buy my very own Mech.
The decision now is to go Medium or Heavy...I see the lights getting murdered out there unless you really know how to pilot them...to bad there are no LAM's

Correct...hence my "unless you know how to pilot them"
With ecm, you dont have to *pilot* them. Load up with streaks, and run lil doggy run!
Seriously, playing Non ECM lights can be hard, especially when the enemy has them. Unless your able to keep your lasers on target or get lucky with your SRM's at 130+ kph, a lot of the time
I have a Com-2D because without it, I'd get fed up running just mediums heavies and assaults (and yes I have a DDC with ECM too for my sins). I rarely use my COM-TDK.
