One of the most frustrating things at the moment for me is, my team dying right around me. And insult to injury is seeing players at the end with like 5 to 30 damage.

Please note this isn't about how awesome I am (I'm probably an average player at best). It's just frustrating to be working hard to kill a worthy opponent, leaving your mech savaged, to then come across another mech which in a superior state to yours, you still managed to kill, to find you then lose the match and you wonder what dafuq the rest of your team was doing during the match.

I imagine the double XP weekend might have brought some newer players in to the game. But has anyone else had a streak of loses where you're like "C'mon man. I was doing my job. What the heck were you doing?!?!?".

Especially when they complain about you 'not fighting' and you've got more kills, damage, and assists than them at the end of the round.

I feel the same way, really. How bad do you have to be to not even break 50 damage in an assault?

i think every decent pilot has experienced this. many times. there is nothing that can be done about it except just not pugging or playing 4mans anymore. Not really great solutions.

So bad your unlucky.

I'm not defending all people in all circumstances. But I've had my lancemate cockpitted in his Atlas by a poptarting Gauss Cataphract right out of the gates. BOOM. Dead. Can't remember if he connected with his only shot or not.

That being said, kills aren't the be all and end all of course. Easy enough for a Raven to Streak through the middle of the a big boy scrap and 'steal' a kill. ;-) Done it plenty of times myself. :-) But damage is something of an indicator, though that skews things in favour of the big boys. How match score is calculated is beyond me, but I don't think it really reflects one's value in a match beyond damage and kills.

Don't forget to add that you start spectating the last person on your team that's still alive, and they're in a light mech or Cicada trying to cap nodes despite the enemy team having 4-6 people left. You criticize their actions in chat and the response is "shut up, you're dead so what did you contribute?"

There are just some times when you go "Hmmm." Like when you're piloting a non-ECM Atlas for experience and find an ECM Atlas in your drop, let him know you'll wing for him and then watch him set the throttle to high and drive straight for 6 of the enemy mechs... You got a wingman so you're now God? Even if we get two of them (assuming that they're smart enough to focus us down starting with you) have we done any good for the team?

Had that the other day and they guy was just a total jerk about it. "We really could have used you in the fight. Here's like a half-dead Cataphract, a cored Atlas and a legged Jenner, but you're there capping"..."Shut up. At least I'm still alive"..."And oh look, they all show up and now you're dead. Thanks for your AWS-8Q contribution".

sure ....sometimes... but that doesn't necessarily mean those players with (only) 30 dmg are absolutely terrible. Might have been bad luck (4ppc headshot from 700m or something like that)

personal performance has 0 DIRECT effect on your elo score. it all depends on whether or not your team wins. of course if you perform well then your team likely has a better chance of winning. man, sometimes i make a tactical mistake and end up with 100 DMG then I feel humiliated to be that CTF-3D with 68 DMG. ;)

A tutorial explaining that this not a deathmatch game and that in order to win, a team must play as a team, stick together, focus fire, etc. would go a long way. If everyone on the team does decent damage, you can still lose. The most important thing is putting that damage where it counts at the right time. I see way too many PUGs wandering off to die alone even when asked to stick with the group. Unfortunately, you'll never be able to fix stupid. Maybe the better solution is Elo that actually works.

Just get unlucky, I guess. I've had many games where I'm all like "gosh darn nublets, where did everyone go? Their whole damn team is focusing me!"

Then I check the scoreboard, and everyone else is dead.

Then I'm all like "Oh.".

Edited for censoring.

I have that happen to me a lot as well.

'Once I take out this Stalker, I'll be ready to rejoin the team. Why am I taking so much fire? Where is everyone?'

If I had 5 MC every time I said "Where the hell did my team go?! Oh...they are all dead..." I would probably be getting close to a Pretty Baby.

Nah, I prefer to get within knife fight range when I'm using my LRM D-DC. That way, I can make best use of it's machine guns.

In fencing, when two skilled opponents fight it doesn't lead to a long match. Either the first attack hits, or it is parried and the riposte hits. Long drawn out fights are actually the hallmark of beginners.

People who can aim can take out opponents very quickly, or at least greatly reduce their ability to return fire.

I love me dem times when puggies chase lights around the map. Especially when they are in slow moving heavies and assaults. And especially when the chasing occurs in the middle of a heated brawl.
