Good heavens, no!

I don't see any reason to upgrade from Windows 7, the features that are new to Windows 8 sound mediocre at best, and that new User Interface practically cries "I'm supposed to be used with a mobile phone/tablet".

Might have been a different story, If i were still sitting on XP.

Windows 8, at its core, is a very nice system. Sadly the whole interface cries "touchscreen" and is far from a comfortable mouse and keyboard usage. The whole new concept is not very intuitive if you don't have a touchscreen.

It sadens me even more that Microsoft is taking active steps against customizing the interface, for example with an old-style start menue. This is as far from consumer friendly as you can get. If they made two different interface systems, one in metro and one in a classical way, choosable at installation, Windows 8 could have become a very good new platform for everyone.

Looks like a super-sized I-Phone. I'm sure I won't upgrade to this and stay with my Windows 7 which had proven to be a good, reliable and stable OS.

I was under the impression that there was a way of getting the classic windows desktop on windows 8, is this not true?

You *can* get out of the new metro start screen... but you can't entirely go back to the old "start menu" style from previous windows version, easily, without using 3rd party workarounds. In the consumer preview you can get the "classic" desktop, but there's no "start" icon on it, so you can't get to the menus. There's a 3rd party kludge that'll get it back, though.

Not sure about in *this* release, I haven't tried it yet.

yes, there isn't really a start menu, but theres still a desktop..
its weird and "touch friendly" (course I don't have a touch screen)

its just Windows 7 with a revamped start menu.. I certainly wont BUY this.. i'll stick with my Windows 7 unless they give the upgrade for free (course its microsoft so yeah.. right..)

I kinda like it though.. just out of first impressions..
once I figure out where everything else (control panel (and get used to where its at, found it once or twice while looking) and my computer and other things) I believe i'll like it a bit more..
think of it as a desktop with a custom start "screen" instead of a menu..

Its always every other Windows release...

Eh well, that just means I have to upgrade less often.

When I have the money to buy a desktop sized touch screen....well by that time the tablets will be around 20" anyway so no I'll pass.
