Backseat Drivers And My Opinion Thereof

Now i am not that great of a player, i can hold my own, and i make mistakes sometimes, but when i am the last one standing for our team. I DO NOT like when people tell me how my weapons work, or the range of them when i am trying to stay alive, and frankly i find it very distracting and annoying.
my biggest wish that happens soon is that we have an option to shut the chat off, because i am getting real sick and tired of the backseat drivers.

"Hey maybe you should target the armored fast mech before you core the nearly dead slow mech"* = stahp.
*Actual advice I had the pleasure of receiving earlier today.

Half the time when there are people yelling at you in chat, there's usually a good reason for it.
Also we reserve the right to tell you to turn off night vision/thermal in Caustic Valley.

That being said, even if you're not a new player I'll probably back seat pilot if:
You're in an Atlas and you keep turning in the same direction as a light mech circling you so that you never end up facing them.
You're shooting at a disconnected player whilst your ally is getting his face shot in by the Cataphract right next to it.
You're the last mech standing with all points capped at 650 points and you decide it'd be a good idea to try to take on three assaults in a half dead Jenner.
You're shooting at the center torso of a Stalker with stripped leg armor.

So in short, just ignore it.

At the same time, if you are an experienced pilot and you know what you are doing on the battlefield, it doesnt hurt to look at your chat just to see if there is something you may not be aware of. As the examples others have written out.
Otherwise, ignore them....you know what you are doing.

no offense but you should heed all advice, and i mean it in the friendliest possible manner;
today you (and a jager) chased a stalker down a 10 story cliff without any way of going back, and took time to cap, in an atlas no less; leaving your team to fend for themselves, at that point it was 6v7 with a heavy tonnage difference.
tip #1 if the enemy drops a cliff just let him go and focus on the other guys pummeling your team, you can leave him for last, he's got no way of coming back quickly
then you crawled back through the only possible but long route to fight both a pretty baby and a dragon with gauss, and you showed your back to the gauss. trying to kill the PB.
tip#2 whenever you hear that sound of gauss, kill the arm holding it; the pretty baby's got some missiles but those are nerfed.
also - the dragon is less armored.
you're a good brawler but tactics win the match
and yeah i was yelling from the backseat, what would you have me do? i sticked by the group and tried to shake the mechs off my allies; you got separated for no good reason.
if i had dropped that cliff i assure you i would have been the last guy standing but that doesn't mean much when it's 4 vs 2
and please don't take it as a personal attack, if anything is constructive criticism available to all. not just you;
i am sorry if this makes you upset, not my intention

Other than that, I try to help pilots who are making mistakes while I'm dead. If you're setting off LRMs at 90 meters, or ignoring your gauss rifle to fire at that Atlas 700m away with your medium lasers, I'm going to poke you to not do that.

I've got $10 that says someone told you the exact thing to do to secure a win and you did something else and that person berated you for not listening, leading to this topic. Well, he may have been wrong, but if he was correct, then he just reaffirmed (to himself and everyone else paying attention) the usefulness and importance of competence advice.
Buck up pal. One day it will be you telling that greedy ******* in the 3L to just finish up the cap instead of trying to solo the brawler atlas.

Some people are new at this game, and don't bother to learn how little things like minimum and maximum ranges work. If i see someone sitting back and sniping with their medium lasers from 650 meters away, I'm going to tell them what's going on.

Honestly, I'm sort of happy this isn't in. I will totally accept bad advice and angry chat messages if it means that everyone is guaranteed to at least see it when someone posts "fast to kappa, slow to eps."
