There is no motivation to exert more effort to make it work if it doesn't work automatically.

The motivation is that this game is fun. They downloaded it in the first place because it looks fun.

You make it sound like that there's nothing in it at all for the player. The fact is that MWO is a blast and it doesn't cost anything to play. I think we can have a little faith that the majority can be bothered with a minimum of troubleshooting to get things up and running again if they run into a hitch. I've introduced a ton of casuals to this game and not a single one of them has been run off by technical issues.

You're not describing the silent majority, you're chasing unicorns bro. This kind of drama queen garbage is the reason people don't click on forum links.

I disagree, it's about the volume of transactions.

There are not enough hardcore mechheads in the entire world to fund this game, period. That 5mil+ the founders put up is in reality, just a drop in the bucket. We would have to put up double or triple that amount, EVERY YEAR to keep this game going. I just do not see Mechwarrior fans being able to do that by themselves.

Bigger spenders are the minority and always will be. The fat loot comes from sheer volume, not from a small dedicated fan base.

No. The people who are too disinterested in the game to check the patch notes or the forums are not going to be spending real life money. The people who cannot pilot a mech without 3rdPV, or cannot stay in a match longer than 2 minutes without re-spawns are going to move to the low hanging fruit long before they put down real money on this game.

There is braille on drive up ATMs because of people like the OP. ;)

Resurrected the thread 10 days later.

Hope this next patch is like magic.

Troubleshooting is not fun(for most people). Bug/glitches are not fun. If they have to move through either of those two things to get to fun, chances are they go for something easier. And i never said MWO was not fun, that's why i'm here, i frickin love this game!

But yea i have hung up my neurohelmet until the next patch at least. I've played maybe 4 drops since i started this thread 10 days ago, and 3 of them were bugged. I love this game, and guess what, it's so buggy right now i'm not having fun when i play it.

And the fact that MWO is F2P? Means it is JUST as easy to put down as it is to pick up.

What about the people who don't come to the forums? Or the users that don't know how to update their drivers?
What are they gonna do to fix the horridness that is the april 2nd patch? And the driver update, not really a fix by the way.

This worries me, greatly.

How are we gonna get the word to them? Huh PGI? How are we going to tell the silent MAJORITY of MWO users, that it's only broken for a little while?

Because if they don't come to the forums they are completely in the dark about the ongoing progression of the game. You yourselves informed us here on the forums that we are the vocal minority. And if the fairly tech savvy active forum users are upset, how must the majority of users feel?

They will not waste time getting angry or upset.

I can guess what most of these users will do, they will stop playing. They will not bother to go update their drivers. They will go find a game that does not require that they actively search the forums for workarounds and fixes. Because that is just too much to ask of normal users.

PGI every time this forum explodes, just imagine how the people who don't come here are coping....or NOT coping as is probably the case. Every time this games stability takes a hit, so does your active player base. And WOE to the players that are just now finding MWO. I doubt very much that anyone experiencing their first impressions of MWO on this patch are coming back.

Get an e-mail out at least. SOMEthing, ANYthing to let the silent majority know that the game is still here and improving. Or at least stating that there is a fix on the way.

Your future is at stake every time a patch goes this wrong.

A concerned mechwarrior:

EDIT 4/13/13: Resurrected thread because after the passage of some time it's even more valid. A quick peruse of the forums and everything that made me hang up my neurohelmet is still here. Played a few drops after hotfix and was outie 5000 when the first hud bug showed.

I think PGI is full of crapppp about there even is a silent majority with so many bugs and problems with MWO I cant see players not coming on the forums for information. If there is a silent majority its PGI staff and TT players in the board room making stupid decisions about the game. PGI would be better off listening to its players and fans on the forums than a bunch of out of touch TT players. Posted Image

The MWO Facebook page has almost 60,000 Likes.

Granted I rarely see posts regarding anything of the like, but there is potential there for PGI to reach a much broader swathe of the audience via Facebook.

Most of the hardcore forum guys will now tell me how they don't have Facebook and how stupid it is. You are the hardcore forum guys. The casuals will be on Facebook.

@OP- People who don't know how to update drivers really should be playing games on consoles, not a PC. Also, the people you mentioned probably don't even know how to create an account on the forum, or the game and don't forget how hard controlling a mech in MWO allegedly is for some people.

The silent majority.....were silent..........because you can only state the obvious soooo many times. In the last silent majority meeting, we decided to let the fanboys rage until they quit. Then we will make our move to regain the forum. (insert evil laugh)

Not a lot of talking at the meeting just a dry erase board and a show of hands.

Not sure that I agree with your reasoning. "Casuals" as in "people who don't have much time to play MWO" are unlikely to spend their free time on FB either (because they don't have a whole lot of it). "Casuals" as in "window-lickers" will indeed be on FB, but whether that's a good crowd to get paying customers from is highly debatable.

The idea that the fact you don't look at the forums means you won't spend money is just plain stupid. No offense meant to anyone. I Liked your post Xendojo, however, take hope in the knowledge that there IS that little blue "Beta" next to the title. That alone may educate people enough to realize the game is not complete. I also think that the bulk of the community will show up after the game is finished, won't it? So lost players now might not be that terrible. I don't even remember how I found this game. I've never seen any advertising for it or anything. So like I said, your concerns are well founded, but I don't think it's life or death for the game.

Also, I agree with Xendojo that it IS PGI's job to aggressively notify us when we need to update things or take certain actions or whatever. (What's wrong with Bible salesmen? :P ) A popup notification in the mechlab should be fairly simple to implement, and from there people can use Google. If they still drop out because they won't do the update or refuse to learn how or whatever, I don't know. See the above paragraph, I guess. All of that said, I haven't been having too much trouble with the game. Crashing has stopped entirely, and when I DO get bugs (Not too often, considering) I can usually power through them.

That little blue "beta" is a crutch that will soon be taken away, hope game has legs by then!!

The current number of active players (which PGi should have) will show this, as well as, current sales etc.
If the active players/sales gets too low, i'd like to think they would put more time into resolving the cause ^_^

Do you tell everyone you know, every single detail, of every single conversation you have online, ever?

I damn sure don't go to the forum of every single game i play, let alone every single F2P game i play.
Does NOT mean i don't play them.

Indeed!

Too bad PGI will not show us that number...

And that might be why MC sales and products are so high up the priority tree this early on.

the easy option is to send a blanket email out to all MechWarrior's to let them know there is an issue with a patch and that work is being carried out to fix it. At the same time, plug the MWO forum in the Email; better still embed a link in it.

Just remember OP.

We are the vocal minority, we come here and care about the game and post on the OFFICIAL GAME FORUMS.

But we are the minority.

The majority are the one's who post on Facebook, and Twitter, and Reddit.

But we who come here, to the "OFFICIAL FORUM" are the minority.

Just remember, if they change something they said. It's because "That was their position at the time." they didn't lie to our faces, they simply "Changed position"

They know what the MAJORITY wants, because of Reddit, Twitter and Facebook.

We got to see an example of a member of the "Silent Majority" speaking up in the last "Ask the Devs: Answers". He was a Founder that made his first post in the Dev answer topic about MGs.
