Great, now this will be 15 pages of defining what constitutes a BETA and if MW:O is really a BETA.
I've coined the phrase ALPETA, which not only describes the twilight period between ALPHA and BETA, but also sounds delicious.
This is more like RC with constant ALPHA of new features going on. The only reason BETA tag is being used is because once they remove that tag, the business model has to "prove up" ... and it's a nice shield for PGI and yahoo's like the OP to hide behind.

I played since WoW since Open Beta and have only recently stopped. At the start the main issue was the sheer popularity of the game. IIRC, the largest player base for an MMO then was like 300k? And they went to 1.5 million instantly, and it climbed continuously till 12 million.
There is no reason why MWO has to wear the BETA tag except that once it's removed, the business model has to prove up. Sure there are a lot of features they want to add, but what game doesn't? Sure their vision is not complete, what developer every releases a game where the vision is "complete"?
PGI is not Blizzard, but that's not *knocking* PGI, it's just reality. My gripes about the game are more business model based then game based. $28 for a chassis? seriously? How many *Hero* chassis do you see in League play? That means, that generally speaking, the Hero chassis suck.
I am a value based person ... I am much more willing to drop say $15 a month on a sub, then make other smaller transaction for vanity sake (yes, I have quite a few WoW Pets, and a more then a few silly hats). But the prices here are akin to charity. I don't have a problem with charity, but I do have a problem with giving the wrong message.
Take the *founders tag*. That is something that should be *sold* to generate cash ... $150? $200?. They could sell a "Hero Bobble Head" that turns any chassis into a "Hero" earning the XP/CB bonus ... $50? $75? That way they could get the Charity type money, and charge reasonable prices on the rest of the stuff.
Currently? they have to build the "charity" into the stuff ... and when we, the consumer, buy the stuff, I think PGI is getting the wrong impression ... that we actually approve of the prices, instead of the true story: Prices are outrageous, but the player base is going to be charitable in hopes the game succeeds.
The problem? the non-charity, post-beta phase will bring a reality that is unsustainable.
