Is 330 a little restrictive for a hero mech wouldnt 360 be better?

They don't want to make it a super fast holy mackrel assault.

probably, at least if you are looking for speed. If you are looking to save tonnage it do not help much.
But it is a matter of things being fair... and you do not want to see 300 KPH Jenners blitzing around =P

If you want a fast assault mech buy an Awesome.
Only Pretty Baby and 9M can go faster than STK; with the same engine size, AWS is approx. as fast as a STK. Everything above 300 rated is not very efficient (speed/weight).

See my speed vs. payload overview
HGN-HM is currently as fast (max speed) as STK, though being 5 t heavier. You don't want bigger STD engines (not useful), XL could work but would take make the AWS-PB and -9M obsolete (they don't have JJ) as borisof007 said.

I have a question re Highlander Engine? Wont you get pretty much same speed if you take out XL put ine endo and stick in slightly slower standard engine?

Compared to what? If you put a slightly slower std engine, you'll be slightly slower.

Compared to having your mech blow up when you lose a side torso.
You dont get shot at the side torso in this mech, they are pretty small and well armored, but I'll check to see what would happen.
Edit:
From 330XL with 3HS in it, I removed 1dhs to make space, and I can fit a 305 std with 2hs in it, and I'll be short 0.5 tons, but thats managable from armor. In total, thats 2HS down and Speed from ~59 to ~54.5.
Not too bad, but I didnt need it yet.

Considering it can't field a very impressive loadout of weapons, it would be more appealing if it could carry some decent speed instead.
I'd recommend either adding enough hardpoints to the arms to allow an AC/20 in the one arm or 3 ERPPCs in the other, or upping the max engine speed to 350.
That way it's not cutting in too much on the Awesome's speed or the Stalker's firepower, and the Atlas maintains a slight edge in its own way, but the Highlander hero mech at least achieves something a little closer to parity and thus appeal.
