Standard size engine on any Highlander was a 270....so Atlas base speed of 48kph. (And, yes, I am aware that the HM comes with a 275xl)

But there are limited variants (historically at this point), so there may be a variant that comes with a 340 rated engine, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Even though there are bigger Assaults, the Atlas is supposed to be the Staple Assault.
Anything beyond 100 tons is too sluggish and is just Elemental Light Mech Bait
Plus shipping them anywhere is a nightmare

wait wait wait, lore wise.. did they ever have over 100 tons mechs??

The heavy metal is flawed in that blowing out the LT reduces it to light mech fire power levels, to many eggs in one basket, making it a sub par brawler. The best build I saw with it was 1 Gauss two ER PPC's or the Strawberry pop-tart.

You mean the standard build everyone uses because everyone sees jump jets and assumes, pop tart build.

Standard Highlanders will have a ballistic arm, a missile arm, laser RT, missile LT. And each one will have different numbers of hardpoints of course.

Cookie cutter builds are cookie cutter builds for a reason.

I went with Gauss + 3tons ammo, 3x LL, 2x SRM4 + 2 tons, 3 jumpjets, 300XL and Added FF (maxed armor) to it. Been working great for me, 2+ kills a round, decent damage.. still slow, obviously needing speed tweek.

Could just get a Phract3D with c-bills and have that on a faster platform.

Thanks to a crummy hardpoint arrangement and limited slots/tonnage, there aren't many better builds with the current weapons available.

It's a pretty awkward mech to make builds for. The atlas is almost always guaranteed to be faster.

But it's not as pink and doesn't play music. Which makes it worse in every important aspect. ;)

You mean long range snipipng from behind buildings. Because 1 Gauss and 3 LL and anything else you put in has more damage potential. But people just want to keep jumping up from behind buildings instead.

If you aren't a complete scrub and know how to pilot an assault with an XL (like old school closed beta days) the following works surprisingly well:

XL330
Endo-steel
15 DHS
3 JJ
3 LL
2 SSRM
1 Gauss
Max armor

I tend to use it as a medium range to long range "brawler" and occasionally poptarting until the actual fighting starts. With this set up you want to apply most of its armor to the front. Mitigating some of the risk of running an XL. Good piloting and situational awareness helps too. This is not a mech to be used by newer players or inexperienced ones.

Good luck.

STD300
Gauss (3T)
3 LLs
2 SRM4s (1T)

I've found that 3 LLs work better for me than 2 ERPPCs. My only real gripe with this mech is that it's slow. It desperately needs the speed tweak. I'm thinking of rebuilding around a larger XL engine just for more speed.

People are going to aim for your heavy side, you may as well run an XL in it, you're as good as dead once they take out that shoulder.

Nope, it either runs out of slots too soon, or tonnage, or hardpoints, or engine capacity, to ever be "awesome".

I chose this post to reply to cause I can address ALL of your concerns with ONE build.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...f3a095e5c44e7a1

And, to all the haters out there, this IS a brawler that I BRAWLED with all day yesterday, with a 2:1 K/D ratio so far, and im still getting used to her. 2 Atlas DDCs thot like most of the "Atlas is the assault GOD" posters above, and died to the sound of ROCK! A third, ran and got chased down...to the sound of ROCK! So, i can keep pace with AND outgun Atlas', did it yesterday. Only 1 mech gave me some trouble, but it was early in the day while I was adjusting to Pinky, but I will STILL give props to that Jager. I got rocked by him, straight up. But here are some of the 1v1s I came out of with the "horrid, impossible to use Heavy Metal".

Ilya 3 UAC5
2 Atlas DDCs
1 Atlas K
1 splat cat
1 Cataphract 4x (didnt catch build)
a few other heavy metals with varied loadouts

End result, this baby takes time to learn to pilot and to find a GOOD loadout where you maximize tonnage and slots. Its ALWAYS a tight fit, but with patience, u can find a solid loadout. If you want max speed, try this:

If you dont believe this build, ill see you out there, cause Im rockin it!

Entry level Elo is fun.... I know a guy who attempted to suicide by charging over the drop ship on frozen in a K2 (striped Machine guns for heat-sinks otherwise stock) and got 7 kills because of entry level Elo.
