I chose this post to reply to cause I can address ALL of your concerns with ONE build.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...f3a095e5c44e7a1

And, to all the haters out there, this IS a brawler that I BRAWLED with all day yesterday, with a 2:1 K/D ratio so far, and im still getting used to her. 2 Atlas DDCs thot like most of the "Atlas is the assault GOD" posters above, and died to the sound of ROCK! A third, ran and got chased down...to the sound of ROCK! So, i can keep pace with AND outgun Atlas', did it yesterday. Only 1 mech gave me some trouble, but it was early in the day while I was adjusting to Pinky, but I will STILL give props to that Jager. I got rocked by him, straight up. But here are some of the 1v1s I came out of with the "horrid, impossible to use Heavy Metal".

Ilya 3 UAC5
2 Atlas DDCs
1 Atlas K
1 splat cat
1 Cataphract 4x (didnt catch build)
a few other heavy metals with varied loadouts

End result, this baby takes time to learn to pilot and to find a GOOD loadout where you maximize tonnage and slots. Its ALWAYS a tight fit, but with patience, u can find a solid loadout. If you want max speed, try this:

If you dont believe this build, ill see you out there, cause Im rockin it!

Good build. I have one suggestion for you though. Move the gauss ammo to the left and right torsos. Since gauss ammo does not explode it can act as a damage sink for your torsos. A small one, but it is better to have a chance to avoid an engine crit with neutral ammo than to guarantee your destruction once your torso armor is gone.

Engine criticals aren't implemented yet.

Gauss Rifle, 3 Medium Lasers, 2 SRM 6s (Jump Jets remain). I get 300+ damage with this and anywhere from 2-4 kills so far. The manuverability of the JJs are great, combined with the Gauss lets you jump snipe until your team pushes forward, then you bring your Medium Lasers and SRMs into play and from experience it's pretty damn effective. Top speed im getting with max engine is 59.4 KPH without speed tweak of course. I'll try to record a match when I can.

That has its positive and its negative. The negative is you're more likely to lose your weapons more quickly than if they're torso-mounted.

Sort of. Arms tend to be infrequently targeted so if you lose them it's due to incidental hits or loss of a side torso. Well it has lots of armor so incidental loss is rare and losing a side torso is fatal anyway. It works out in the end ;)

Pretty sure I got blasted in the face by someone with Gauss +3ERPPC +JJ. 45pt alpha pretty much wiped my CT on my hunchie in a single hit.

Entry level Elo is fun.... I know a guy who attempted to suicide by charging over the drop ship on frozen in a K2 (striped Machine guns for heat-sinks otherwise stock) and got 7 kills because of entry level Elo.

Nice try, but im not entry level, and the guys I run with are founders who have incredibly high ranking, which bumps me to higher matches, im sure, than my elo would allow....so again, nice try.

Not a bad idea, thanks. I will keep it in mind, but in the cases that I do die, its either cause I pushed a bad posit, or just got focused and in both cases, it has always been a CT kill, so the XL sides have not been an issue as of yet. Tks for the tip tho, might play with the build later today.

You can't mount 3 PPC's in the arm unfortunately - you're limited to 2. Still - that's a 35 point alpha at tremendous range.

Personally though I like 3 LL in the arm - 27 points of directed doom alone. Combined with Gauss you get a brutal 47 point hit that will cripple many mechs in a single blast.

Ok guys, Ill share my range build (just had a good game with it, scoring 6 kills and doing almost 1k damage)

3 energy weapon slots in left arm -> 3 large lasers with uber aim.(chain)
2 Missle slots ->2x LRM 15 + Artemis
1 ballistics in arm -> UAC5

But, unfotrunetly, You have to drop jetpacks to be serious threat, and add some Endo-Steel.
Drop XL Enngine for 300 standard.

Also got nice build for brawling with 3xLPL UAC5+AC5 , works like a charm.

Cheers.

Or maybe you're in **** elo and all you see are clueless people copying others' setups and playing poptards.

Having lots of fun with this XL330 3LL + Gauss + 5JJs build:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...dd8607231df80b5

Pretty fun and mobile for an assault mech feels a bit like my Cataphracts but with Atlas level armor.
Usually top 3 in the damage for each round and have managed lots of kills even after having lost a leg.

Loving it so far.

You might have a point if he wasn't playing in a four man with friends of mine.

Oh I LOVE the hate poptarts get, it means they are an effective build and I don't even own one (my 3d is 2LL 2 ERPPC).

3xERPPC does not fit in the arm. It's 9 slots and it can only fit 8.

Every highlander build "HAS" to be fast.

Like I tried to run a 280 STD engine in it. Couldn't do it.

Maybe once the Elite Speed tweak comes that I can back my engine down a bit to make it a bit more comfortable. But being lapped by an atlas with a cane can be frustrating. Anything less than a 325 engine really makes me feel like a stalker with jumpjets.

I hope they at least increase the engine size upwards of 350 once the other highlanders hit. But speed is life.

Aside from that I am digging it.

325 XL (I don't feel like i am taking a risk bring an XL, out of the couple dozens deaths or so that I've suffered almost all of them have been to a popped ct, very rarely is it a torso.
Endo (Yup endo, because you don't need a lot of space because the big engine and ballistic keep your heat cool.
528 STD Armor
13 DHS - all in the engine.
5 Jumpjets

1 Gauss - x4 tons of ammo
1 ERPPC
2 Med Lasers
1 LRM15 - x2 tons of ammo

I've experimented with dropping a ton of gauss ammo and the lrm15 in favor of a srm6 and a lrm10 with 1 ton of ammo each. I think I prefer the LRM15 over all.

The reason is for the sniper wars more people are happy to stand their ground and trade shots but I throw a LRM15 at them and it's "Look out he's got a towel!" and they break.

Nothing wrong with poptarting in a highlander.
