No, I'm not saying release it on Steam. :P

What I'm asking is--PGI, is there any chance ya'll will consider allowing MWO not only to be launched via a non-Steam game link (that I do for other games)... and continue to show as me playing the game within Steam after I click "Play" on the initial screen.

You see, right now, MWO is made up of several separate programs. When you run the Mechwarrior Online program, it pulls up the patcher and then the play button screen--once you click play, it launches another program, closing the first one and to Steam, that means you are done playing.

I want MWO to show up as me playing it the whole session, not just for five seconds.

Why would I want to do this? Vanity. Well, that and the hundreds of other guys I know on Steam will see I'm playing it and... perhaps... give it a try and play it themselves.

Free advertising, right? I think that's a good thing!

Now, if someone here knows how to do this right now, please feel free to post how as it is driving me nuts trying to get it to work right.

Why bother with the poorly coded bloatware that is Steam, be happy you can play it without using it.

It's not that bad, especially not compared to Origin. I guess you can find it bloatware if you have no friends.

Agreed, just uninstall steam, and you'll have a pretty friendly game by iself instead.

Bloatware? REALLY? Have you even looked at it in the past few years?

Dude, look at your calender - it's no longer 2003. Steam is not bloated and runs just fine. I very rarely have problems with it. Besides that, you either need a multi-million dollar marketing budget, an existing known title, or Steam. Otherwise, say hello to flat sales.

I never noticed this until you said something. I swear I've seen it say I'm in non steam game MWO during matches and seen other players with the same results, but I just tested it with another account to watch and indeed... not in MWO during match.

Testing further, please wait...

2nd test:

Relaunched via steam. Now it shows in non-steam game MWO. Go past patched, logged in, launched game... and still in non-steam game MWO in Steam interface this time.... so odd!

Additional testing...

Finished game, got back to main GUI, Steam still shows in MWO. Seems like it'***** and miss. I can't find anything that would reason why it dropped that couldn't be explained by why it stayed in...

Why do we need any more mechs, maps, or play modes? Oh, right we don't. But it would be nice ;)

20% of your whole profits going to Valve is hardly what I'd call free advertising.

perhaps but at least people would see/hear about the game, maybe get some more people into the game (it could use a playerbase boost)

Actually, it is. Valve pays for bandwidth and marketing, so you're saving money on both of those. The exposure alone is worth the 20%. Tell me, how much do you think it's going to cost to get targeted marketing for 5 million customers? That's targeted, not adwords that spam people who "might" be gamers. There are currently 5 million PC gamers online right this second...

Marketing and bandwidth are both real costs involved with business. Obviously steam still makes a profit, but you aren't actually losing 20% if you think of it in terms of savings.

Steam is more than just content delivery, you know... That's why he was launching it as a non-steam game, along with every other person I know who plays MWO. That way I can msg him saying "Oh you're in MWO? I'll join up!" or "Hey I'm gonna play some MWO, wanna join up when you're doing with that TF2 match?"

EDIT:
I also launch Minecraft via steam.

When I put a game in my non-steam game list, Valve gets nothing. ;)

I've been trying but have been unsuccessful so far. I can get it to run, but what I want is the overlay. I was on voice comms with someone that had it working somehow, but I cannot remember who. I'll post on LCAF and see if someone there knows.

not sure why there is so much steam hate. The only thing that bugs me about it is the auto updates that you can turn off. The selection and prices work very well for me. Gotta love those weekend bundles

Do you know what bloatware is?

Running a task in the background on startup?

Constantly using system resources?
