PGi's answer to the ECM debate can be found here:

http://mwomercs.com/...f-guardian-ecm/

For those who just want the TL/DR version, PGI intend to:

- Place ECM on a fixed location, just like AMS

- Remove ECM's ability to hide your allies location.

No other change.

As I want to keep the subject neutral, I'll refrain from posting my own opinion here.

does it matter what we think?

Again like with the PPC effect paul missing the point completely.

Binding the ECM to a hardpoint will nerf the atlas, but what about the raven. who can honestly say they can pinpoint the raven's right torso to take out ECM. if you had the skills to do that, you'd be better off blow out its XL engine and kkil it. and if that were so easy there wouldn't be a 3L infestation in the firs place.

before saying nerf the 3L. lets use our thinking noggin and remember back to before the ECM was implemented and the 3L was unknown and the Jenner was OP.

uhhh, there is a problem with ecm? didn't know it.

there isn't a "do not care" option in the poll.

Am I satisfied with the answer? Yeah, more or less.

Am I satisfied with the speed of the answer? Hell, no.

ECM already is balanced to the point that lights other than a 3L are usable. I'd say it's a good idea.

i would love ECM to be used as an actual scout tool.

with things as they are 3Ls are alpha light mechs. not scout mechs.

I think it's a step in the right direction. I do think it's hilarious that they think the 4-second PPC short-out was anything approaching a viable counter to ECM, but the IFF fix is really nice for all us wild pug herds trying to stay in a blob without voice comms.

But honestly the conversation they need to be having re: ECM is how the thermal improvements may have impacted how powerful ECM is.

the 3L will still dominate in the light circuit. no light mech can carry ER PPC to combat the ECM/sSRM combo.

and if they allowed everymech to have ECM. it would be the replacement for AMS. nobody would ever carry AMS. and everbody would have ECM.

Having ECM in a mountable spot makes sense, and would probably please the lot of players who cry about it being OP.

But not covering your friendlies position on a map? What? That defeats the purpose of having an ECM on an Atlas.

I think you may misunderstand this
it will hide all friendlies within the ECM bubble from those on the opposing team, those on the same team wil however still be able to see friendly mechs on radar and still have IFF info for them

Yeah, the PPC thing is kind of a joke. If a 3L gets hit by an actual PPC build (so like a poptart or a pepsistalker) it has bigger problems than loss of ECM for 4 seconds.

ECM on an Atlas is relatively balanced. PPC, TAG and a fixed location are decent soft counters. Still gives way too much benefit for 1.5 tonnes of equipment though.

ECM on the Raven 3L is still broke as it ever was. Mostly because streaks are still the top dog weapon for killing lights and ECM controls who can use them. PPC and TAG are completely useless, putting it in a fixed spot won't do a thing.

They plan to fix the one problem I had (after the nerf to streaks made SSRM+ECM not a win button for light v light): the hiding of friendly mechs by ECM.

So yes, I am satisfied.

I do think that they'll need to put in a lot of work and be careful when they re-buff SSRM and LRMs however.

I see, so an enemies ecm wont screw up your radar like before, just make it so the enemy doesnt show up on radar if spotted.

I think thats correct, im not sure about the effects of enemy ECM though, so now I see your point more clearly

It doesn't need it. If you don't have an opinion on it, then just don't vote.

no right now ECM hides your equipped mech even from your teamates. the fix will make it sothat no longer happens.

i always thought it was a bug but i guess it was a feature? can you say bad design?

The problem was never ECM. The problem is the OP nature of STREAKS. As long as ECM continues to keep streaks under control I don't have a problem with it. While the Raven 3L and Commando 2D still run streaks with ECM this is far better than seeing streak cats everywhere.

Lawl, if you still think ecm+streak combo is OP since the HSR for lasers and missile splash and damage nerf, I believe you have a L2aim with lasers problem.

Its probably a guarantee that a high skilled 6slas or 6mlas jenner can beat a high skilled raven at this point. BUT the jenner still isn't worth bringing over radar-stealth imo.
